Intel is sending a new new motherboard and processor.  Apparently while there may have been a screw lose, there is clearly an Intel failure.  He's some kind of channel partner so they are sending him new both and then when he figures out which one is broken, he'll send the unbroken bit back with the broken one.  And they are sending overnight.

Nice.

Now I think I'll try installing the printer...

He has a couple of significant advantages in this sort of fault finding, he has other hardware he can swap in and he has a business relationship with his suppliers. If my box didn't work it would be weeks before I could get Tiger Direct or NewEgg to swap out the parts. Actually the eVga motherboard and graphics card are return to factory items and they have a reputation for denying claims whenever they can. But fingers crossed...

I'm not surprised its a toasted motherboard or processor. After everything you had already tried, that was really all that was left.

When ever I build a system for someone, I load up a copy of "Doom" on it and leave it running in "demo" mode for 48 hours. At the same time, I also load up the software for the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (http://www.mersenne.org/) and put that in "processor test" mode for 48 hours. "Doom" hammers the graphics and I/O systems. GIMPS *hammers* the processor and memory. If the system can withstand that, then its good to go. But if there's even the slightest problem, one of those programs will make the problem show up.

Oh, I meant to also add...

I just realized that your envelope, along with some other mail, is still stuffed in the back pouch of the seat of my car waiting to be mailed. I'll see if I can't get off my ass and do that this week :-)
