Goat Rodeo

I have no idea where that expression came from - goat rodeo. I don't remember it at IBM - circle jerk, yes, goat rodeo, no.  Anyway. It's a common phrase at Microsoft and this week I got to play in one.

You have an impossible task which is not managed well with an aggressive deadline, last minute major changes, etc.  I was coding pages last night at 11 (not a good idea in my case since after 6 p.m. I turn stupid) and up at 6 to do it some more.  For a 9 a.m. launch.  Which didn't happen. My buddy, Tyler, asked a very appropriate, quite innocent question that was the equivalent of a giant showstopping rock in the gear sprockets.  We had a large conf call at 11:30 where various groups duked it out and most everyone coming away pissed, annoyed and feeling like a victim.  And that's where we stay.  Last word I got was that they wanted to launch mid-afternoon.  I'm putting those few dollars I have left after the stock drop du jour into Not Going To Happen Today and probably not until mid-next week earliest.

A true goat rodeo.

My meeting with Jerome is in 30 mins.  I'm ready.  They said the first meeting is just a health screening thing.  No working out.  But I'm open.  I do hope that if there isn't any start to the action, that I don't have to wait until Monday to actually start.  I'm kind of ready, ya know?

And, I don't have shoes.  I just realized that.  I have crocs but I'm guessing crocs aren't going to cut it. Hmmmm  This could be an issue.  The last time I tried to wear any kind of sports shoe, they ate my socks so badly that I could wear them.  That's actually when I switched to clogs - about 15 years ago and then crocks about 5 years ago.  Hmmmmm  I think I have a pair of slide on kind of clog trainers but I don't think they are going to cut the mustard.  They don't stay on very well.  Better than crocs for the gym, I guess.

Ramble ramble ramble.

[livejournal.com profile] legalmoose turned me onto a new (to me) blog which I am very much enjoying.  Marn's Big Adventure  A good starting point is only a couple of entries back from the current one when in two entries she makes hilarity out of her colonscopy...  Start here and laugh along.  Thanks, Moose!

I hate shoes. I like clogs. I didn't like Crocs. (sorry!)

But I got New Balance sneakers (I think they are cross trainers or walking shoes. I dunno, but they are white and look like sneakers to me.) And I LOVE THEM! They are wide for my fat girl feet and they make my feetsies not hate shoes so much.

I'll stick with the more colorful military term for describing my current dysfunctional development group's attempts at achieving progress. It's a complete Charlie Foxtrot.
