I need to start by saying that 1.  I have mirrors and 2.  I have a calendar so I know I'm fat and I know I'm old.  BUT inside my twisted little brain?  I'm seriously not either of those.  I think that's probably why I mention both so often.  I feel like the dichotomy between what I think I am and what I am is both amusing and whacked.

Jerome told me to do 10 minutes at 1.5 on the treadmill.  Fuck that baby.  I'm going for 20 at 3.  So I dig out my shorts. I find a t-shirt and put on socks that feel about orgasmic good and my new shoes.  I grab my earphone/radio (Car Talk is on) and my water bottle and I head on over.    There is no one in the treadmill room (which is big and has about 10 treadmills and about 20 other torture looking machines). 

I get a little burst of smart and figure I'll do 2.0 for 10 and then 3.0 for another 10.  And I go.  The shoes make a HUGE difference.  I mean HUGE.  At about 5 miles a guy comes in who looks to be about 5-10 years older than me but very fit.  He gets on one of the other treadmills and starts hauling ass.  What's your hurry, dude???  You got a hot date?? 

I think I'm ok with being the tub o' lard amongst the celery stalks but I think I may suffer from competitive performance anxiety. 

But, about that time, I started to ... dare I say it? ... feel the burn!!  I was feeling it in my hips.  Not my back, which was interesting but my legs and hips.  By 10, I knew that Jerome had been correct.  I was done.  But I feel good about my 10.

I need to run some errands.  I need to go to Target where I will walk around and look and that's what always kills me.  My back, my shoulders...  So... today, I'm going to wear my workout shoes and see what that does.  (I'm throwing a pair of crocs in the car, just in case.)

Tomorrow the gym is only open from 9-3 and I'm going down to meet my friend Susan for lunch which means leaving here about 10:00 and probably not getting home until after 3.  I was going to go early and go to Fry's which is very near her but if I do that, I'll miss the workout so Fry's is going to take the hit.  Ya gotta make choices.

And screw the performance anxiety and all that - you pay your dues, use the place!

I'd advise you to pay little attention to what other people are doing - people have many different goals and agendas. What you are doing is just right - good advice/help from a trainer and then you set your own goals and meet or exceed them and you'll be in good shape.

Says me, flabbily, since I haven't seen a gym in 3 weeks - but we are doing lots of walking. And the only weight lifting I'm doing is to lift my too full bags when moving from one place to another.
