I downloaded and installed IrfanView yesterday and got kind of tangled up because it wouldn't install.  Vista wants you to 'install as administrator' but doesn't come right out and tell you that and I haven't gotten in the habit (and it's not the default from IE download) BUT anyway...

While I was trying to get IrfanView to install, I missed the 'install the Google tool bar' option that is the default and the thing got onto my browser.  I have a love/hate relationship with that thing and had decided not to install it, but, alas there it was.  So I just deselected it so it doesn't show.

However opening a new browser  instance brings the thing up again.

And... when the Google bar is visible... the right mouse menu is dead.  Google bar unselected... the right mouse menu works fine.

I'm not even sure how I lucked into the answer so quickly. If I hadn't, I can't imagine who in the world I would have figured it out. Whew.

I notice Google just announced that they have stopped recording IP addresses for searches. Fine, I never searched for anything illegal anyway. But once they had been outed for forwarding information to the feds I stopped using their other products. I don't want a company that datamines for a living having access to my personal information.

You can uninstall those google things in the normal way, they seem to be being piggy backed onto other installs quite often these days.

if you're an administrator user you can turn off the stupid thing that prompts you for every little fart the computer makes ... then you will run as administrator all the time and your installers will run correctly.

it made me crazy--i turned it off. i think that, when i install for users, i'll turn that off to get the install done and turn it on again (like your brother did) before delivering to a customer.
