My Mom's 80's birthday is in February. I am sending her and six of her friends to an elegant restaurant for dinner in a limo. It's going to cost probably about a grand. I made the mistake of asking my brother and sister if they would like to do this with me. My brother said sure. My sister is making sure that her participation pisses me off as much as possible. Essentially all she has to do is send money. I know she has it.
I am now, as of this moment, letting it go ... if she sends the money, great. If not, fuck her. I am the executor of Mom's will. I'll get the cash one way or the other. I am not going to stress about her any more. I am not. No matter what you say.
I am going to stress about the invitation. I have a photo of Mom that looks just like her that I took at Thanksgiving. I've been messing with it to use as some kind of representation on the invitation. I think I'm getting close to a version I can live with.

It's going to kill me to put her name on the invitation. Maybe I'll spell it wrong... Nahncy, Nanncie, Enancy, Bitch...
With or without your sister, you'll be glad you did it
Date: 2002-12-18 08:53 am (UTC)a brain fart and can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it was a seafood place in Seattle that has 3 or 4 other locations)
So we had an open bar with hors d'ouerves (to make it last longer and allow people to mingle) and then an early dinner.
There were about 25 people. It cost about $1500.
We enlarged some family photos and taped them to the walls for decorations. I saw people I hadn't seen in 30 years.
We paid for most of it, but my brother got the cake. I didn't mind the disparity. And he is the one that is perpetually on call, because he lives near my mom.
So do your best and take all the credit.

And, of course, of the three of us, my sister is the one who is way too busy, important, etc. to be involved in helping Mom in any way.
