Today is clean up day. I moved from one cubicle to one in another room (to get away from the Twinkies) about a month ago. The guy in charge of moves here told me I could 'probably move on Monday'. When it turned out he wasn't here that Monday, I made the unilateral decision to ignore the 'probably'. (I'm bigger than he is anyway so I wasn't worried about a show down.

The point to that is that I moved in kind of a hurry and never got things as organized as I would like. I had a lot more room over in Twinkieville so I just kind of crammed stuff in here. So it's time, now, to get it organized.

Plus - and here's the ulterior motive - I can't find my Paint Shop Pro book. I know it's here somewhere.

It could be a lot worse - The Furniture Police

When I was a manager at Honeywell we had just moved from our nice offices in Cambridge to Billerica. One of the people decided that she wanted to move a cubicle wall from one side to another to change the placement of the opening so she unbolted it and did it. The Director of Facilities "discovered" this and came down to see her boss, Michael, (who worked for me) to tell him it was verboten for so-called safety reasons. Michael told him off in no uncertain terms and this guy walked out of Michael's office slamming the door as hard as possible (which knocked off lots of stuff from people's shelves- so much for safety. It was such great event.

Later the DoF came to my office to make his case. While he was at it he explained that I couldn't have my incandescent lamp (I hate flourescents). I squashed that ridiculousness when I pointed out he had a coffee maker in his office having noticed it once when I had been down to see him about something. At a subsequent meeting with my boss he said that we couldn't move any furniture even an inch! Of course in some offices you had to move furniture to plug things in and since it took about 3 days to respond to a work order.....

They had also confiscated our water cooler when we moved saying we couldn't have one because of some policy. When I asked for a copy of the policy he wrote up a memo on the spot. I had to go to the VP about this and my case was so easy. The DoF had written another completely ridiculous memo justifying why we couldn't have one because then every group would have to have one and he calculated the number of them and the square feet they occupied and thus the cost of the space and the maintenance of that space. (We had volunteered to pay for the rental so he couldn't use that cost arguement).

At some big event, the VP gave our group a special mention for our creativity and awarded us the rights to have our own jacuzzi to be personally maintained by the DoF.
