What a treat!
Jun. 7th, 2007 07:19 pmThis afternoon got a little frustrating work wise and I was feeling the stress but plowing on through when the cellphone rang. It was my neighbor Lee. Sherry flew out to Spokane this afternoon. Her Dad's stroke has now caused other complications and the family is gathering to help out her Mom. Lee had dropped Sherry off at the airport and wanted to know if I was interested in going to the Hawaiian place - the other choice from a week or so ago.
I told her that her timing could not have been more perfect. It was just exactly the break I needed!! She picked me up and off we went. The Hawaiian place was adorable. A real hole in the wall with the nicest people you ever want to meet. And the most amazingly yummy food. We had crispy ginger chicken and pork adobo and the best friend rice I have ever had and trimmings. We ate until we could not move. I even ordered four scoops of the fried rice to go (it's going to be delicious for dinner tomorrow). Our bill came to $20. Amazing.
Then we did another little driving tour! This time Beacon Hill which is where I go to the library and the grocery store a lot but I'd never been to the part of Beacon Hill where her Mom lives so we drove through and even stopped in to say hi to her cute little Mom.
It was a wonderful lovely enjoyable evening.
PLUS! When I got home I had an email that one of my bosses other employees has agreed to take on the project that I hate the most and she's so glad to have it! Whew. And nothing fell apart while I was out.
Oh and the Mariners have the night off so they won't lose.
I am so counting my lucky stars tonight!

You know what intrigues me most about your building? That you have the traditional types of neighbors who actually talk to each other! I have only had that experience while living in houses; in all the apartment buildings I've lived in, in Seattle (admittedly only three, but still), everyone in the common hallways ignored each other just like strangers do on the street.
I wonder if it has to do with how old your building is and how long the same people have been living there? Sometimes, the way you describe that place, it seems like the ideal setting for a sitcom.

Date: 2007-06-08 02:46 pm (UTC)BUT... I remember now the first years. And, honestly, it was that way in the beginning. I remember this guy who lived on the 3rd floor for a couple of years and he was always popping in and out - grabbing me or someone else for a quick trip to Wendy's or 'come help me choose a xxx'. He installed my first ceiling fan.
This is my fourth condo that I've owned and lived in. The first one was kind of like this in the neighbor thing but there were only 9 units. The other two were the very opposite.
So... net net? I have no idea why this place is like this but it does make it a fun place to live, that's for sure!
