Betty the alpha cat

Well, she has settled down some but if this morning is any indication, Betty is going to wallow in being an only cat.  Jake never could handle it very well but I think HRH Betty is ready to serve.  She is certainly making me smile today.

Thank you all so much for your kind words.  He was a good cat. 

Years ago when Mother and Daddy came to visit - well came to spend the night on their way to visit my sister - Jake peed in Mom's empty bag.  He had never done anything like that before and never did it again.  But Mom really did not like pets (neither did Daddy but he kept his mouth shut so his bag stayed dry) and she tolerated dogs but cats, birds, hamsters - they were all pests in her book.  Jake paid her back.  Big Time.

When Bubba died, Mom asked me once 'now was he the one who peed in my bag?' and I told her yes, he was and now her bag was safe. I swear I heard Jake snicker.

I had a fairly similar situation with Peng. I always prefer to have two cats but as long as Peng is around, he's so high maintenance that another cat just isn't feasible. And Peng likes it just fine that way -- he loves being an only cat, and he didn't shed a single tear when Batty disappeared. Of course, we also moved right after Batty died so Peng's entire world shifted and that probably kept him from thinking much about Batty (or dealing with any lingering scents from another cat).

When I went out on the town with a houseguest once, our dog sneaked into the guest room and got into her wallet and *ate her money*!

Later, she sent a thank you note with an enclosed dollar bill for the dog. :-)

Just wanted to add my sympathy. So glad you can be grateful for a good life. He was well loved! Hoping you and Betty will comfort each other well. Take care!

I was away from the computer all day so I just saw this. I'm sorry Jake's gone. I'll miss getting new stories about what he and Betty are up to (I'm sure she'll still get into plenty of mischief, but I loved how you would talk about the two of them).

I'm glad his end was relatively easy and peaceful and it's good to see that you're doing ok and that Betty is doing her best to be as entertaining as two cats.
