shocking news
Jul. 12th, 2007 12:49 pmThe weather peops were wrong!
West coast weather is so strange. On the east coast, you can see the weather coming across the country. So look at St. Louis, add the local factor (how far up or down the coast you are, how close to the ocean/moutains, etc), how fast that particular weather moved to St. Louis from the west coast and you can pretty much tell what it's going to be like next Tuesday.
Here? Not so much. Plus, we have the drama. I have not seen an east coast weather forecast in a lot of years but no one could (or hopefully would) create the level of drama we see here on our local TV weather. If/when the end of the world comes they will have totally used up all of their superlatives and be caught with their weather pants down around their ankles.
Last Sunday, the weather was hot and heading for much hotter and they said that it was perfect. Monday, it was warming up and they said that we were all going to fry to death. Ditto Tuesday. Ditto Wednesday. (The one that cracked me up was they kept telling everyone to drink bottled water. Tap not good enough, apparently, for our weather peops.)
Yesterday they said that today would be in the 80's and sunny and so another hot day. Wrong-a-dong-o. Cloudy, hazy and if we see 70, it will be because someone lit a bonfire.
I would not take such glee in their so very wrongness if they weren't so fucking pompous all the damn time.

In other news... I ventured out to run a couple of quick errands and was somehow sucked into Office Depot. I know I'm not alone when I confess my unadulterated love of office supplies. Even as much as I hated school, I loved school supplies and that love persists today but now I have money to buy whatever of them I want. And... it's that time again.
I walked around and ooogled and oggled everything. They have som many new clever fun things. In the end, I only bought a $15 pillowed lap thing to keep the hotness of the laptop off my thighs and a pack of half index cards - in four different colors. I'll need to do Office Max and Staples in the coming weeks.
--
It's also kitten season and the animal shelters are screaming for everyone to come adopt cats. I think I've pretty much got my shield safely installed against pleas... Betty does not need a kitten and we don't need another cat. We're fine. I'm loving cleaning out the litter box every 3 days instead of 3 times a day. And Betty's turning into quite the cuddler. I think we'll do fine on our own.

Date: 2007-07-12 10:28 pm (UTC)Except that, because of things like the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, that weather is likely to do some unexpected things before it gets to the east coast.
In the plains, yeah, you want to know what tomorrow's weather is going to be, call up somebody 500 miles to your west.
Around here, not so much.
