My new coffee table!!

ms_hackman made me a beautiful quilt using all my favorite colors.  It's been hanging on my wall in a spot where I can see if from my chaise and my computer but I've always wanted a more prominent place to see it better.  It's really fascinating to look at.  Each square has a different wonderful fabric and in the center each has a different bead.  It needs to be looked at closely which didn't work on the wall.

And then I needed a new coffee table.

Years ago I found at Goodwill a small side table that was really a basket on two interlocking pieces of word that made the legs. The basket got tossed long ago but the pieces of wood were so clever and easy to store that I just hung on to them. They just come right apart and lay flat.  They could not be more perfect for this if I had hired an architect to design the most wonderful base. They need painting but I can do that.

Today I went to Tap Plastic - which is this wonderful store of plastics and molds and cool stuff and a great store manager and he and I discussed options and then he went to work.  He cut me two pieces of nice, solid, fat acrylic.  And he had just exactly the right spacers.   

I came home and assembled and voilà.

Is that not just perfect? In every way????

But, wait there's more.  It's TWO SIDED!!!!!

I'm so tickled with this, I can hardly stand it. I have not rearranged the furniture yet but I will now that I have a center.

Doesn't it??? I just sent you an email but the only address I could find was your work one. I want to make sure ms hackman sees what a wonderful table her quilt made but I don't have her address. We have a TAP store, and I've been panting and drooling over it from not-so-far for several years. Now I'm even more desirous. Yummy, and congratulations on your coffee table, and the quilt. The whole business is gorchus! :-)

The weight of the acrylic holds it down and the little rubber spacers keep it from sliding off. Works really well. Tap Plastic is a treasure trove of amazing stuff that you always wondered where you could buy it if you ever wanted to. Treat yourself. Tell 'em their Seattle customer sent you with instructions to nose around.

oh that turned out GREAT! I love it even more than the footstool idea!
I man handled your ex-coffee table into my apartment and I think all that jostling may have fixed the "needs wt's" problem! its staying flat and I absolutely love it.
The night I brought it home I wrapped presents on it! perfect.

Interesting you should say that because I had the very same thought this morning when I saw the sun streaming down on it! I moved it into the shade fast!

It won't be a big problem because I try to keep the direct sun out as much as possible anyway. But, whew. Fading would be horrible!
