I was just stressing over high speed internet access decisions when I was slapped with a big BeGrateful! Noodle.  So now I think I'll take a minute and be very grateful that I have choices to chose from!!  That is nice.

I'm currently hooked up through an ISP via Qwest DSL.  My intent was to dump the ISP and go with Qwest directly but a little phone call today put the kibash on that.  There were several little annoying issues and one big show stopper.  There is no way, the manager said, they could make that kind of change on my account without my losing at least three days of internet connectivity.  THREE DAYS???  And you know when they say that, it's a week easy.  I tried a million ways to poke at the thing to see if he could realize how very nuts that is, but he couldn't.

So... on to other alternatives.  Comcast.  I've always been queasy about bundling.  If Comcast provides my TV and my internet and goes down I'm double fucked with only one place to complain to.

Other phone co's?  Available, possible?

Clearwire?  Lots o' buzz but I need speed 24/7 and reliability.

So I went to this great Seattle web people mailing list and asked.  MINUTES later I got a really nice note from a woman who works from home - online - here in Seattle and switched from the very same ISP/Qwest situation to Clearwire and is quite happy!!!  She offered up herself for q's so I sent her some - like will my TiVos and multiple computers also be happy...

But what I seriously might do is sign up for their month to month service and give it a test drive.  I'm paid up with my ISP through October.  So I've got some time to test.  I'm giving it serious thot here...

We swapped from Comcast to Clearwire, and have had no problems whatsoever. Its $19.95 a month for three months, plus a $50 gift card to sign up and the speed has been great.

Granted I am in a very different part of the country, so your mileage could vary. But I can heartily vouch for Comcast's broadband internet. If you do a lot of big (hundreds of megs) file transfers, it will smoke DSL any day of the week.

As for bundling and Comcast going under, Comcast is such a large company I seriously cannot see that happening. And speaking of bundling, at least in my neck of the woods Comcast is offering a phone/TV/broadband bundle of $99 a month for one year. If I wasn't already totally cellular phone-wise and happy with it that way, and likewise happy with my Dish Network TV package, I'd seriously look at their bundle.
