Losing it

The tense is wrong in that subject.  I have lost it - actually several times.  I was so stressed last night that it took me forever to fall asleep.  That I only had 5 hours to do all my sleeping didn't help any.  And then my neighbor, Sherry, called the minute I had dropped off.  She needed entry to the front door of the building.

I knew the reason she called was because they keep their telephone turned down so low that you can't hear it when you are sitting next to it and Lee was asleep.  Ordinarily, I would think it was funny but not this week.

On no sleep, I've been banging my head against the wall all damn day long.  This project is all over the floor and the people responsible for putting it there are pretty much missing in action and that hand you see holding the bag?  That's mine.

So, when Sherry called this afternoon - on my cellphone.  (I've asked her about 59million times to please use my land line.  By the time I get up and dig the cellphone out of my purse and hit the button, the call has gone to voice mail and I have to call her back.   My land line is right by my chair.)  So when she called on my cellphone and said 'I'm coming up to visit!!!!', I lost it totally.  She got my ugly.

So then I had to go down there and apologize.  She and Lee were there and I promised them I'd be back to normal on Wednesday and please forgive me.

I melted down talking to my boss - who is really to blame for this mess and knows it.  I really tore the new project manager a new one.

He promised the customer we could provide this one function by Monday.  I sent him an email asking him to please verify.  He called to tell me how he had worked on the development team for the function and started to explain how it worked and I cut him off and told him that all I needed was a yes or a no by the 10 a.m. meeting for the customer.  He starts in again about how he's new and he's got so much on his plate yadda yadda, and again, I cut him off and told him that while I appreciated his sad story, it would be best if he could share it after launch and not when I had 15 minutes to get ready for the meeting.

Turns out he got on the call and promised the customer he'd return an answer by 5 today.  At 6 he sent an email saying it would take a week (of course the 'it would take a week' verbiage was surrounded by 8 paragraphs of crap.

Then I got a note from my brother that my website had a broken link.  Turns out it had a whole missing section.  The family pictures section.  I have backups that are probably as current as the ones lost.  They didn't make the transfer to the new hosting company.

I have an RSS feed of my brother's Flickr account.  It' shows up on my LJ Friends page.  He rarely posts photos so when some showed up today I was very curious as to who that couple was with my brother and his wife and stepson...

Turns out the couple (on the left of the group shot) were the folks who won the laptop giveaway. (The corporate offices of the franchise gives away a laptop every month.)  Besides the fact that they were already favorite customers...  Bill (my brother) said that the husband had recently had a pacemaker put in and while they were putting it in they found something that looked like a portend to a deadly cancer.  The day they won the laptop, they found out that the cancer thing was benign.  So now these people connect Bill's shop and company with everything wonderful in life.

She sent Bill the most wonderful thank you note about how much she loved the purple (franchise colors) laptop and even the wallpaper on the thing and she was trying all kinds of new computing things and had told everyone she knew about her good fortune, him and his shop.  It was not only a very cute note, she added a jumping happy smiley just like Mom used to love to do in her emails.

A very cool thing all the way around.

I just got the nicest note from the developer/smartest guy in my company other than the boss guy.  I had sent him a list of all the issues and problems that I know about now (probably 30% of what there will be) and he said that he can and will do them all and from tomorrow afternoon through Wednesday when the site has to be ready he'll be my assistant ready to do whatever I need.

So maybe I won't jump off the terrace tonight.  Maybe I'll wait until tomorrow.

I know you're too fucking busy, so don't reply.

But remember: your half-arsed is 100 times better than most people's best efforts.
