I'm an old woman with cats who hoards.

My favorite yarn supplier is offering free shipping this month. They do this about 3 times a year and I'm such a sucker for it. Today I decided to go ahead and place my free shipping order. But, I thought, hmmmm maybe I should just review what I have in house before I order more... I knew I had a couple of afghan's worth in the front closet - the colors aren't great so I've been avoiding using it.

To make a sad story short, it turns out I have enough of my favorite afghan yarn to knit 6 afghans in different colors in addition to the one I'm working on now. Since each afghan generally takes a couple of months, I have, right here, a year's worth of yarn! And that's not counting the two huge tubs of various yarn bits and pieces that I can also use for different kinds of blankets.

Geesh. I had no idea. I am a little embarrassed.

When I die, my sister, I guess, will be the one to go through all this crap. She will find, in addition to all this yarn, a drawer that has 11 bottles of Ban deodorant. Last Summer I ran low and went to get more - I like the roll on with the big ball. I couldn't find any! Anywhere! I did a little research and discovered that the Ban brand has been changing hands for the past few years and is flux again now. I whined to my Mom. South Carolina, apparently, is suffering no ban on Ban. About a week later I got a box from her with a dozen bottles. What was really funny is that while they were all the exact same product, the bottles were different. They had different labels, different colors, etc. A closer inspection revealed they came from three different distributors. I think I have enough now but have a tickler on my calendar to worry about finding a new brand - in about 10 years.

I also hoard office supplies of all kinds with a special emphasis on writing implements and postit notes.

I am a very sad case.

From the first sentence I thought it was the cats who were hoarding.

Hey, if they are anything like my kitties were, they are definitely hoarders. Especially of every last one of my hair ties or hair clips. They were forever hoarding those things under the couch. *grin*

that's what i expected, too ...

and, when discussing skeins of yarn, this makes total sense.

i expected talk about finding a closet full of yarn covered in cat hair with chewed split ends!

I knew exactly what you meant. You would have said "Cats who hoard" Not "Cats who hoards" if the cats were actually doing the hoarding. OK, I have spent enough time on this subject. Happy New Year to my new LJ friend.

I am living in a parallel universe. Not that much of the yarn yet, but let's just not talk about fabric, okay? Or counted cross-stitch. Or watercolor. Or acrylic craft paints.
