All you could want in a restaurant
Nov. 3rd, 2007 01:50 pmRather than sitting around here getting sore from the Rosie workout, I decided to go find my eggs benedict that I tried to get last weekend. 13 Coins - the restaurant that is open 24/7 was closed last Sunday when I went to find eggs benedict.
But today it was open and everything was perfect.
My friend, John, gave me a couple of weeks after I first moved to Seattle to settle in and then he came up from San Jose for a long tourist weekend. His sister came in from Chicago and we did everything. I had never been here before I moved here but John had lived here in the early 80's and had great memories and wanted to share them all. We did every touristy thing we could find. It was very fun.
He and I picked up Ann at the airport Saturday morning and we headed out to his favorite breakfast place in the Madison neighborhood where he used to live. Ooops. No more. The breakfast place had been replaced by flower shop. So on to Plan B.
13 Coins. 13 Coins is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. It's an institution. They have cushioned booths with walls to the ceiling and a long bar/counter with special upholstered chairs that have giant backs and are very comfortable. Half the counter overlooks the hot cooking area and the other half, the cold prep area. It's grand theater.
A meal at 13 Coins was obligatory whenever John came to town. They have about 14 things on the menu that are my favorites. The rest is as good.
The eggs benedict, this morning, were perfect. Just perfect in every way. I sat up at the counter, the hot end and watched the cooking theater. And wondered why I don't go there more often. I'm going to make it a point to go. It's easy to get to and a wonderful treat every time and full of really really nice memories.
After 13 Coins I stopped off at a grocery store looking for GenSoy Sea Salt chips. No luck. But, I did - against my better judgment - get two bags of corn candy.
I got a fair amount of work done before Rosie - the one chore I did not want to do is done. I have more on the work todo list but it's the easy stuff. I may do it today. I may do it tomorrow.
