I bought myself a new toy. An RCA SmallWonder. It's a small and cheap - I got mine for under $100 via one of those best price websites.

But mainly it is stupid easy and I mean that. Out of the box, you press 'on'. It comes with batteries installed so when you press 'on' the thing comes on. When you press the red button, it records. I plugged the USB into my PC. Notice, I did not say 'I found the CD and put it in the computer to install the software.' Oh no. When I plugged the thing into the USB port, it installed the cutest little application.

The application, saves my movies, let's me trim and sew them together and upload them. Seriously. They made this thing so that Travis could be Cecil B. DeMille if he wants.

Within this little application is an 'upload your video' bit that puts your movies on a website and then creates a little icon for here. This is a test, this is only a test.

(note to self, hold off on putting that tootsie roll into your mouth until after you finish shooting the video)

Works like a dream. Hey! Those things don't usually work for me (and my Mac) the way they work for the rest of the world.

Gotta say that I agree with the leaving out the Tootsie roll business. ;-)

Yum!
I don't think we have anything like that here.
We do have jars of chocolate offcuts that look a bit like them and the children call it Monkey Poo!

Hehe. Similar stuff, yes. Tootsie rolls are actually a key ingredient in Kitty Litter Cake. (Which a coworker once made; as she made it, it tasted marvelous, but it is rather disturbing.)

Didn't you get a Virgin Mobile pay-as-you-go phone? That takes pictures?

Have you used your cell phone to make a phone post on LJ?

I don't know about your phone, but on ours photos cost cash. If they came out of our minutes pool they'd be free, because we never come close to using our allotment. But because they cost cash, we copy them out of the phone through the phone's USB cable instead. That's free, and the pictures come out much better because they're not down-sampled like they are when we send them through the cell phone company.

Lovely videos. It sounds like a fun toy. If you want to do anything more fancy than just clipping start and end points (like the credits and captions in my kitty video (http://steve98052.livejournal.com/158840.html), and I think the previous videos too), you might tinker with Windows Movie Maker. It's not very versatile, but it does a nice quick-and-dirty job.
