Last Summer, I ordered a flip phone from Tracfone. After I paid for it and got it, only then did I learn that they could not port my number to it. So I sent it back for a refund. Which. Never. Came. Emails about it returned a reply that said call.

Talking to them on the phone was too incredibly painful. They would put me on hold, come back and ask if I was there, tell me they needed to put me on hold then come back and ask if I was still there and put me on hold ... you get the picture. I did this twice - once in August and once in September. Both times they told me the refund would be in my credit card by the next week if not, call back. Right.

I decided that it was an $87.03 lesson. Expensive but good lessons sometimes are. And I gave up.

Today there appeared in my Discover Card account, a credit from them for $87.03. Too Fucking Weird. And a delightful surprise.

My husband does that too. If it's just too much of a pain in the ass and it's under $100, he'll let it go.
I'm glad they finally gave up.

A shortcut to talking to vendors through their stupid calling systems to complain is to call the credit card company and place the item on the bill in dispute. Then the credit card company will either reverse the charge or at least remove it from the current balance. (Caution: if the dispute is eventually resolved against you, they'll re-bill it with interest.) In any case, that will put the vendor into the position of calling you to convince you that you owe the money. If you don't actually owe it, you'll be in a good position to present your case, because you'll have an actual person on the line, with them waiting to find you instead of you waiting to get through to them.
