[livejournal.com profile] drood has a new kitten who looks like I suspect Travis looked 3 months ago.  And acts like Travis does today.  It's fun to ready about his Fred.

Like Fred, it does seem as if all of Travis's communication is in italics and uppercase:

BUT WHY CAN'T I WALK ALL OVER THE KEYBOARD???
DID YOU SEE THAT??  I MADE BETTY RUN TO THE OTHER ROOM!!!!!

When he's not being adorable nestled in the crook of my arm, he's having a kitty terror attack.  One of his favorite foes is the bathmat.  He gathers up a corner and holds it to his chest and goes at it with all four paws.  The bathmat has no defense.  It just lays there and takes it.

And, sometimes, in the middle of the night, Travis pretends that I'm the bathmat.

Not interested in nearing any grocery stores these days, I ordered up a delivery that arrived this morning.  I always try to fill my delivery with the heaviest of my groceries.  I lay in a generous supply of Diet Dr. Pepper and kitty litter and anything else that is a groaner to get from the car up to the elevator up to here.  Today's order included potatoes.  Now, I meant to order about a dozen.  For twice baking.  Somehow - lordonlyknows how - I ended up with 30 pounds.  I haven't counted but a quick glance says that 1.  it's more than 12 and 2.  I am armed for the next intruder.

I actually think they will keep pretty well out in one of the cupboards on the terrace.  Won't have to buy potatoes for a good long while.

I have lots of little house chores that need to be done and lots of free time to do them.  Nice.

I remembered last night that I have lots of large bills due in December and January.  Things like long term care insurance and home owners dues.   So this morning, I looked at last year's December/January bank and credit card statements and came up with a list of everything I could think of, including 8 more sessions of Rosie.  And a plan for where the cash will come from.  Work is so iffy this time of year.  It's really feast or famine and I have no way of knowing which this year will be so I have a famine plan in place.  All is under control.

And speaking of Rosie... Tija sent out the gym newsletter today and it included an announcement that in January they are going to start an early morning yoga class that sounds like it might be appropriate for beginners.  I'm seriously considering giving it a shot.    The woman who runs the classes is named Heather and I think I know which one she is and so next time I see her, I think I'll ask her about the class.

My sister's and I are going to find our own Rosie. I met with the general manager of this place that caters exclusively to women and kids. And they will do personal training sessions to up to 3 people. (Hey, my sisters and I make 3!) And you get 3 sessions a week for a month for a set price. I think it is how I will have to go to get into the habit, because even just forcing myself to do it is hard. I think I have to have an appointment with someone.

Because I canthink of any reason not to do something :/

2 lbs potatoes (4-6 potatoes), cut in half lengthwise, sliced 1/3 inch thick or so
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 green bell pepper, seeded, cut into 1/2-inch wide, inch-long pieces
1 medium size onion, cut into 1/2-inch wide, inch-long pieces
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Place the sliced potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water. Cover the pot and bring to a boil. Once the potatoes are boiling, lower the heat to medium and cook for about 15 more minutes, until the potatoes are easily pierced with a fork but still firm. Drain and set aside.

Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large, heavy bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Add the potatoes and flip them around with a spatula to coat them in oil. Cook undisturbed for 5 to 7 minutes; they should be lightly browned. If they are not, bring the heat up a bit. Cook for 10 more minutes, stirring and tossing occasionally to brown all sides. They won't all get browned and crispy, just do your best.

Add the green pepper, onion, salt and pepper, and another tablespoon of oil, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring often, until the onions and peppers are lightly browned. Serve warm.

(this also keeps well in the fridge and is good zapped the next day)
