Pollyanna checking in
Nov. 26th, 2007 01:50 pmNo insightful remembrances, no earth shattering revelations, no thrilling exploits to report. But, does that stop me from making an LJ entry? Heck No In A Swing!! (Brenda Vestal, who was in my class for much of elementary school used to say this all the time. Or maybe it was Linda Vestal. Yes, they were identical twins and really sweet. Wonder whatever became of them?)
It's the perfect day for snow here only it's about 15 degrees too warm and no moisture but really if it were cold and rainy, we'd have snow. We would.
Travis is here with me on the chaise. I'm working and he's napping and we're snuggled under a cheap furry lap robe I got at Sears a while back. We're mighty comfy. Betty is in her drawer in the fish room and I suspect she's delighted that neither on of us are bothering her.
Work is steady. Fix this page, redo that one, add this graphic, change that link. Nothing overwhelming and nothing I can't handle and all at a very nice pace. These are the days when I love love love my job. Even the four days off are helping. I am not at all stressed over the stupid things like I usually am (wordy content, ugly graphics, bad user interface). I get paid by the hour. If they want to pay me to ugly up their web pages, who am I to tell them no.
The Monday afternoon conference call during which one of the guys who works for my boss almost always pisses me off, got canceled.
Life is good. Really good. And if that snow would come, I'd happily offer a free upgrade to exellent.

Date: 2007-11-26 10:41 pm (UTC)Linda and Brenda - the famous Vestal Virgins? Probably changed their last name by now...
Snow in Seattle? Pretty rare down by the water where you are. Enough to stick maybe once or twice a year, enough to make snowballs, once every couple three years. For better results, hop in the car and head east across the Mercer Island bridge and drive about 30 minutes past Issaquah.

May life continue to be good, or better.

I actually thought that snow was in 1994 but my photo has the 1998 date on it so I don't know if it's wrong or I am but I do know there was 18 inches and it was beautiful.

Date: 2007-11-27 12:05 am (UTC)Looking at the weather stats for December 1998 (I was in Redmond all that year) there was a record 18.5" of precip for the MONTH. On the 24th when the photo is dated, it was 1.4" of precip, which is about 5" of snow, tops. Less if some of that precip was rain.

If you google 'snow seattle december 1996' you'll see a lot more. If you go to the Seattle Times and search on December 26, 1996, you'll get the story.
It may not be significant to you but it sure was to me.
You always want me to go somewhere. I'm not going anywhere. I do know what's out there, I'm just not interested. I want snow here. Not 20 minutes or 30 minutes or any other minutes from here.

Date: 2007-11-27 01:52 am (UTC)Yep. You made me dig it up the correct date of The Big Snowfall - Dec. 15, 1996.
But what you now point me to is:
The Not-So-Big Snow of 1996
On Friday morning, December 27, 1996, a foot of snow fell on commuters. It closed the passes and cut into the traditional post-Christmas exhilaration of bargain shopping. However, the 1996 snow also put a stop to returns. It increased video rentals tremendously, a point that offered little consolation to the Blockbuster store in the Crossroads Shopping Center. Its roof fell in.
Dates schmates. A foot of snow is definitely enough to shut down Seattle.
