Weak Knees
Jan. 9th, 2003 03:46 pmSo my Tivo is acting like it's starting to think about having problems. And I'm in a panic. Mine is old - not the oldest but pretty close. They now make them that do more but I like mine and I don't really need more but I sure do need what I got.
Off today to the Tivo forums to see what others have done before me. The concensus seem to be that my best bet is a harddrive replacement. There's a great little outfit out there that sells harddrives already Tivo ready. So I went to shop. I read all of the info - all the FAQ's, all the disclaimers, the instructions, all of it.
You can buy the harddrive with the installation kit or you can sent them your Tivo and they will do it. I'd love to do the latter but that means I would be without it over night and longer... That's just not acceptable. So I ordered the replacement harddrive and installation kit.
I've never done a lot of hardware work. I've added in a CDRW to my pc and yanked and replaced cards and yanked and replaced memory and yanked and replaced processor chips, but nothing serious. I am very nervous about it but I figure that the worst possible case would be that I would get the thing open and not be able to do the job and have to box it all up and send it to these guys.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It should be here next week. Oh, the name of the place I ordered from? Weaknees! I don't know that I've ever known of an outfit more appropriately named!
