Happy Dancing
Jan. 10th, 2003 02:58 pmI think I used up a month's worth of good karma today...
Mole on head. I found the name of a guy - a dematologist who looked like a good bet. His office is get-to-able. So I figured I go there and try my luck. First of all I found it easily and there is free, easy parking. This is no small consideration. Then I walk in and the place does not look like a doctor's office - more like maybe a lawyer's office or even an accounting firm and there is no doctor smell.
Then a very nice woman asked me insurance questions without using one single insurance buzz word and determined that I had the right kind and then appologized for not being able to schedule me sooner than 2 weeks!!!
I was ready for complicated insurance questions, a grilling about my primary physician (which, of course, I do not have) and a stall of six weeks or more until anyone could see me plus attitude. Boy, was I disappointed.
Then on to the manicurist where I did not have an appointment. They took me right in and said they were so glad to see me.
Then on to the grocery store where I got all the 'card' discounts and only had to give them my telephone number - no card!!!
And I get home to find that LJ is nearly back to fixed. Life is good today!!

Date: 2003-01-10 09:40 pm (UTC)(why susan dear - you could join us at the con with those nails)
I recently had acrylic nails put on and hated the way they felt. I'm doing the gel thing now and I like them so far - we'll see how they hold up to the typing and painting...

Date: 2003-01-10 09:46 pm (UTC)Unless I'm going to visit my Mother, I generally work within the blue/green family - an orange now and again if I'm feeling kinky. My mother checks the web cam to bitch about my nail color - it horrifies her.
The manicurists are all about 20 and from Viet Nam - there is about 10 of them in this shop. They think I am the strangest thing they have ever come across. First off - I'm old but I don't act or dress like it. And I don't have a husband or children and I wear all their strange colors. It's pretty hilarious.
I wore acrylic nails for years and years and then stopped when I moved to Connecticut because it was just too expensive and I didn't have time. Since then I've just grown my own.
Gels? This is new to me... Don't know about gels. I think you'd better 'splain gels. I'd hate to think I'm missing out on something big here.

but I bet that DOES drive your mom crazy! lmao!!!
anyway, gels are a "lite" version of acrylic. You know how they put the acrylic on in one big glob of powder stuff?, Gels are painted on in layers and hardened under a UV light. They end up putting about five layers on and they are about half the thickness of acrylics. I've only had these about 5 days and I can already tell they are wearing on the tips. They feel real but cost twice as much. It was 45 bucks to have a set put on. The biggest gain is that they don't have to buff the nail underneath as much so the nailbed isn't damaged the way it is with acrylic. I envy you if you have great natural nails -- mine are thin and peel. Without the surface help, they won't grow at all.
I know my bird finger looks deformed - it's my drawing finger - it has a huge callous that I'm trying to get rid of.

I like your french! Seattle is the perfect place for a 53 year old to wear sparkely green nail polish every day.
Oh and before I word acrylic nails my nails were too thin to break - they would tear and split. They grew under the acrylics and, I guess, got stronger because after several years of wearing the acrylics, I stopped and they have been strong ever since. Really. Weird.
