Short list...
Jan. 29th, 2008 08:58 amToday might be another one of those semi slow work days. Yesterday actually turned out to be a rather full one but I still managed to knock off a couple of things on my personal list. Like the junk org project.
All of the stuff in the credenza near the front door has now been hauled out, sorted through, culled and put back in bins so that I can easily open the door and pull out a bin to see what's there and find what I want. Nice.
Next on the hit parade is the other credenza next to the half bath. I think we're going to do the same thing.

My car is getting Goodwill full. So soon there will need to be a drop off trip and also soon there needs to be a Costco/coffee trip. Depending on how things go this morning, one or both of those may even happen today. My lunch truck is in the 'hood today so I am absolutely making a lunch trip and both Costco and Goodwill are nearby enough to combine if time allows.

I got a virus IM today. It was a pretty lame one because it was from a clueless someone who would likely forward whatever came her way and because it was a link that appeared to be a page but was actually a download. So it never came close to hurting me but easy to see how someone less alert might get taken... Delete, delete.
--
Another couple of projects I have on my plate are moving my stuff to a new wiki and figuring out how to forward one of my emails without leaving a copy on the server.
--
When Mom was alive I set up a wiki for me - I kept all of her info there for ready access, telephone numbers, names, account numbers, notes, links, etc. It was a great solution cause I could easily add/edit and could access it from any computer anywhere quickly and easily. I set it up on PBWiki and set up one for me - notes, and links, and a few files and stuff. PBWiki was fine but they charge me $50 a year and they have changed their model from personal to corporate so it's time for me to bail. I have a new home http://www.wikidot.com and I need to transfer all the info over - like the credenza's it's taking it all out, culling, editing, and then putting it back in an organized fashion so it's easy to find what I want.

I forward the email from one of my domains to Gmail mainly to take advantage of Gmail's superior spam filtering. Outlook grabs the Gmail via pop3 and saves a copy locally. So I do not need a copy on the server that houses the domain. But, I'll be darned if I can find a way to forward-and-then-delete. I've always done this before using the client but Gmail which is kind of serving as the client here doesn't offer the option. So I need to investigate other options. I can log on every once in a while and clean up the trash but that's kind of silly.

So... that's the world of me today. So far.

Date: 2008-01-29 06:51 pm (UTC)I found out about the changes at PBWiki when I went to create a free one for my brother. If free ones are still available, I couldn't find 'em. And they no longer have the $50 a year ones. At least that I could find. BUT, it appears as if our free ones (I had one free/one paid) are grandfathered. So, fear not. And, I might end up just moving everything to my free one and locking it down. Maybe. I'm a little twitchy that I can't find out anything from their website but that's probably me being snotty.

And yes, your LJ is awesome for finding out good stuff like this! Thanks!

Date: 2008-01-30 12:01 am (UTC)And, after looking into it further, I just moved the goods from my paid PBWiki to my free PBWiki and locked down the free one and I'm good to go. I did scrape the important stuff into a word doc for safekeeping but otherwise, I just tidied up and left it. And I did see a little 'get your own free pbwki' link - teensy at the bottom. So who the heck knows what's going on???

Date: 2008-01-29 06:28 pm (UTC)A thought on your email forwarding: The delete needs to happen at the origination site, so maybe you'd have better luck looking on the forwarding server side for a forward-and-delete feature. Or maybe they have a redirect, where instead of storing the email, they just push it to Gmail.

Date: 2008-01-29 06:55 pm (UTC)Their cpanel funtions are really limited. I'm now thinking about maybe setting up an email account and then polling it from a simple pop3 tool that downloads and deletes off the server. Then I could have the smtp function avail without the build up.
That's what I'm thinking.... assuming their forwarding with no account deal works. Jury - or rather test email - is still out. Wanna test? me@susandennis.com

Date: 2008-01-29 08:18 pm (UTC)You should not need and actual email account to use their SMTP, but if they require that then just create an address with a dummy name. Don't check the mailbox because it will all be spam, and won't matter if it fills up.
