Ok, how many of you are sick and tired of all my Tivo talk??!! In a line, over here, please. Now just move along because this is another Tivo post. And, probably my last so you can come back after.

Tivo has a lot of ways to know what to record but two biggies are Season Passes and Wish Lists.

Season Passes tell Tivo 'always record this show - go find it when ever it is on and record it, please'. Here is my list of Season Passes (In order cause order is important - the ones at the top will always get first dibs on any time slot).

My Wish Lists are:

Dawn French (record anything she does which sadly we don't get nearly enough of)
Hugh Grant (duh)
"small spaces" - like decorating on HGTV
computer
A Touch of Frost


That's it, that's my list. So you can see why I have to spend so much time watching TV. I'm not just kidding around here. I am a professional.

Have you ever seen If Walls Could Talk and Restore America? If Walls has Grant Goodeve for a host. I must look him up to see where I know him from. He must of been on some show from the 70's or 80's. My memory is failing me.

Grant Goodeve is a Seattle boy!!! He was in Eight is Enough and now he hosts any tv show that will have him. He does a couple of local shows here and some others. I like him. I have not seen either of these shows and now have marked an episode for recording OH and something in your comment reminded to to add Connections, too! Thanks!!

Oh yeah CONNECTIONS is an excellent show. Tom wrote about it once. Have not seen it in a while.

Coupling (BBCA) -- Brithish 'Friends'
Changing Rooms (BBCA), Trading Spaces (TLC) -- house makeovers
So Graham Norton (BBCA) -- Naughty Talk Show

Yes on the Coupling - I keep forgetting to add it into the mix. Thanks. I've tried those trading shows... doesn't work for me. And Graham Norton requires a taste I haven't acquired yet. Funny about how different things work for different people!

I love Monarch of the Glen, but I find it's hard to get TiVo to differentiate between new episodes and repeats of any of the BBC-America stuff.

Are you picking up HGTV's "This Small Space"? Many of the spaces they work on are not small at all, and all hosts should be hit with a shovel for various reasons, but they do have great ideas.

First of all, I am Tivo illiterate. I had no idea how it worked until you posted. I actually looked them up and now I have a vague idea. I guess you pay monthly for a service from them? Is this correct? You must also own their equipment?

I am such a TV Junkie, but have old fashioned VCR, and use it all the time. A couple of times I have used two at a time. )Have small one in kitchen) I already spend what I call a bundle on cable (extended basic only) and cable internet access.

I think it might be worth it though. Like you, I watch a lot of TV.

Ok, You do have the makings of a Tivo-ite. Usually 1 VCR isn't criteria enough but you did say you had two.

When I got mine, I had 2 VCR's connected to the living room TV and 3 connected to the bedroom TV and switch boxes to hop from one to another. I had one for each major network, 1 for Fox, PBS and misc and one for playback.

Tivo basically replaces all your tapes with one harddrive. The up side is that you don't to guess what's where on which tape. The down side is you can't pop it into another player for playback.

But, mainly once you get it set up, it's like not having to remember to tape anything. It does it for you.

You will hear a lot of crap about how it skips through commercials and steals your personal data. Yes, you can fast forward through commercials - no differently than your VCR. And yes, they could find out what you tape by hijacking the data. Wow. I am so terrorized that someone will find out about my House Invaders addiction.

BLECK.

Oh and yes, you can pay by the month or buy all at once. There are different Tivo sets you can get. The cheapest one right now is $150. Then you need to pay for the service. I think it's something like $12 a month now. BUT you can pay for it all at once with a lifetime membership which is currently $250 I think.

It's a lifestyle for sure.

Really sounds like a bargain if you don't have to pay monthly. I did the same with my cable modem. Too expensive monthly. I definitely am interested and am on my way to look around. Thanks for the info.
