$110 if you count the gas - $130 if you count the brunch. Holy shit.
I went back to the Starlight today and found a new waiter - Joel. Who was fabulous! He got my poached eggs runny and my potatoes crisp and checked in on me often and was handsomely rewarded (and obviously appreciated that). As I was leaving a huge group of young parents and babies started assembling. I'm talking freshly minted babies so each couple had at least one diaper bag and one of those hummer sized baby carriers with cargo. It was clearly time to clear out I did notice, though, that one guy's diaper bag was black with gray trim and pirate graphics. That cracked me up.
Then I decided to go get milk. But I needed gas. So I got gas. It's easy to ignore gas prices when you don't use the stuff. Not so easy when they want you to pay for the damn stuff. Commuters have my sympathy.

Then on to the grocery store. There was a Safeway but across the street is an independent market that I hadn't been in for about 10 years and so I thought I'd give that a go. HolyFuckinUpgrade, batman. The place now puts Whole Foods to shame. It's beautiful with fascinating foods. Chocolate chip scones? Frozen sushi? Beautiful salamis and cheeses and olives. I did remember the milk. I do need to remember not to go back there too often until I have money to burn.
Now I am home and everything is put away and the afternoon is mine.

Someone on my friendslist posted a site that Travis needs to see!

Date: 2008-03-03 11:07 am (UTC)Although you live downtown (where there are few or no gas stations), telecommute from home, and drive maybe 500 miles a year, you still know what gasoline costs. That makes you more aware of the outside world than the President is. But that's not saying much.
