My first job was not at McDonald's. There were no McDonald's in North Carolina when it was time for me crack that virgin paycheck. I worked for a family friend in her low end dress shop. (I sucked at it.)

[livejournal.com profile] silverthief2 mentions parenthetically (literally) in an entry just now:

(why does McDonald's get your food to you so fast? Because there are LOUD ALARMS that don't stop beeping until an outstanding order is fulfilled)

I never knew this.  There is a McDonald's about 3/4ths of a mile from here.  It is very near a KFC/Taco Bell joint and an Arby's and a Jack in the Box.  I often think I'd rather have a Jack in the Box burger, one of Arby's interesting specials or a taco salad onI know that whether I get out and go in or drive through, I will be thoroughly pissed off by the time I finally get my order.  If I want slow food, I'll go to a slow food place.  When I want fast food, I'm honestly interested in fast. Only McDonald's understands this.

The McDonald's nearest me is nearly too fast.  They don't give me enough time to make up my mind.  I rarely have enough time to dig out exact change.  And this is in the middle of the day - at the height of the lunchtime rush.  They get it every single time and now I know why.

Cool and thanks, Ronald.  I wonder why the other places haven't figured this out yet.

My first job was in a Dress Barn. Thank god I wasn't on commission.

The local McD's is kind of hit or miss on speed - they tend to get so wound around the axle on drive through orders, and then they don't have enough people working the inside registers.

Yep, that's a typical McDonald's for you, though not all are perfect at it. Airport locations are particularly good examples: act as though every customer has a flight to catch!

I pulled up your webcam page earlier and saw Travis sleeping in his bed. Awww. I just flipped back over and saw Travis and then an EYE to the right of the computer web cam. That was a bit freaky. I didn't know you had a computer on that side of the room. I just assumed you would be facing the other way when in that room since the monitor is across the way.

The KFC nearest my parents' place (downtown Bellevue) is so fast that the orders are done about as fast as you describe. Last time I was there was July 4, when all of downtown Bellevue (KFC in particular) was absolutely packed with people pouring in to watch fireworks, and that's how fast they were. They're fast when they're not busy too.
