Monday, Monday...

Nothing going on this morning, so, of course, I woke up earlier than usual. Even after lolling around in bed reading LJ, playing catch with Travis and piddling around, I still managed to get up before daylight. Oh well.

I stripped the bed and put on clean sheets, gathered up the laundry and am now on load #2 of 3.

I'm logged into work and ready to go but nothing is there... It is not yet 9. My jobs are assigned by project managers. I currently work for three different ones. None are early birds. Well, they may be but they don't start work early. So I have to wait until they get organized and start assigning stuff which on Mondays is often after lunch.

So more piddling. I have an LJ mystery I researched and cannot solve. One of my friends posted a locked entry that never showed up on my friends page. The locked entry he posted just before the missing one as well as the unlocked entry before that one both showed up on my friends page but not the most recent locked one. I can see if I go to his journal but I can't figure out why it does not display on my friends page. It's making me a little nuts.

No takers on my chaise. There's a flyer on the bulletin board in the garage with fringe but no one has even taken a tab. Craig's list brought nothing. I guess I'll post in the Seattle LJ community tomorrow if nothing pops. There are a number of charities in Seattle who will pick up donations but they either will not pick up from downtown locations or their pick up schedules require weeks of advanced notice. Freecycle is an option I'm really hoping to avoid. What to do... what to do...

It's a perfect weather day for my lunch trailer - chilly and rainy. But, alas, my lunch trailer day is tomorrow! Their weekly email announced, however, that they may soon be permanent walk up window place 'very near King Street Station'. King Street Station is the Amtrak station that is just across the parking lot from my living room! How handy would that be?!

Oh man! Front Door TV Network shows that green computer bag guy just came into work... it's 9:20 - he must have had a wild weekend.

If the entry was backdated, then it won't show on your friend's page, but will still show on his/her journal.

It's dated yesterday just after noon so I'm guessing the backdated thing isn't in play.

Turns out you did have the answer!! Your smarts are proven... It's a feature called backdating that has nothing to do, apparently, with dating.

iirc, "backdating" an entry only means that it doesn't show up on your friends list. It's useful for times when you want to toss up a bunch of entries out of order w/o making your friends' friends pages go all wacky with dates.

However, you don't actually have to fiddle with the date, you just have the option to.

I just put up a test entry that should be exhibiting the same behaviour you saw on the other post.

Hmm. When I go to edit the entry, I don't see any indication about this feature (doesn't mean that it isn't there, just that I haven't found it). I'd really like to fix it,

If you use the Semagic client, it's called 'backdated' - if you use the online web entry form, click on the 'edit' next to the date and select 'entry out of order'.

Hey, I even found the following on: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=91

Select the "Date Out of Order" option to avoid incorrect time value errors on entries you post later. The "Date Out of Order" option does not work in communities and entries with the "Date Out of Order" option will not be shown on Friends pages.

I'll betcha hit it by accident some how.

Well, I just checked, and the "entry out of order" box is not checked.

I also don't understand why some people (apparently) saw it on their friends page and some did not.

You should NOT have seen it so that's good.

BUT I just went back into the test edit and 'entry out of order' is still checked. AND the hit and miss of your other friends is very very curious.

I'm stumped.

Did your friend use the Date Out Of Order (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=91) option? Entries set that way won't show on friends pages.

He did not. (Assuming that susandennis has seen only one instance of this behavior.) The only thing I can think of is that I first posted it as "private" so I could see how the formatting of the picture came out before I made it visible, and then changed it to friends-only. But that wouldn't explain it, nor why the same thing apparently didn't happen to anyone else.

I can say that I've never been aware of this behavior before and if John hadn't made his post referencing yours, I would never have known at all. Interesting theory about the private then friends only... hmmmm

dragonvpm cracked the case. Somehow you triggered the backdated feature which has nothing to do with the date, apparently.

Whew. I just don't want to miss stuff - this says I won't, mostly.
