Yesterday, I noticed that they were finally fixing a building down the street that was damaged in the earthquake two years ago. Last night they showed the people in Mexico gathering outside after their earthquake. Except for the time of day, they could have been us two years ago.

Now, I am a fairly firm believer in threes. This is two. I know I'm borrowing trouble when I worry about the third one of these earthquake things. But, you know this last one just wasn't as much fun as you might think it would have been. And I'm honestly not really all that excited about doing it again.

Here's my report on that last one. The building they are finally reparing is the first one you come to on the page - the one with the big gapping hold at the window.

I'm thinking that the third thing might be a new study in earthquake prevention... That I could handle.

WOW! What an experience you had.

I hope you never go through anything remotely similar.

Wow. What a scary thing. You definately don't have to worry about a third. Here (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/) is all of the earthquakes in the last week.

Down here in Vancouver, I was at work, too. I knew immediately what it was, but it was weird in that I was really calm about it. It was almost over when I finally thought, "damn, this is really a long one, maybe I should go outside." Nothing at all happened, though. I was concerned because I was working in the jewelry/antique/collectible store, and was concerned about all the crystal and porcelain, not to mention windows breaking, which would create alarm and security issues.

That February quake was much like the first one I can remember, sometime back in the 60's, in that there was much more obvious lateral motion than any other earthquakes I've felt. The duration was longer, too.

I was in Seattle in 1965

when they had that one. I was only ten. I sat in a chair in the living room wondering what was going on and finally figured it out and then it stopped. My mother and brother were still in bed. Not much happened at our house, but there was extensive damage in West Seattle and a handful of people were killed, I think.

My driver's ed teacher was in West Seattle at the time and years later had us drive around there and told us more stories about it.

Well now that Betty is found, I can share this. Years ago I heard of some guy who compiles statistics on the lost pets column in the newspaper. If the list gets too big, he predicts an earthquake.
