This n' that
Mar. 18th, 2008 11:33 amToday is lunch wagon Tuesday, but I decided to blow it off for today. I'm doing chores instead.
I cleaned off all the terrace furniture and then emptied out a storage bin that I have in the fish room and moved more suitable stuff into it creating a lovely hole of available storage in several other places. Nice.
Then I took the trash downstairs and also the table I used to use for my laptop. It's a functional piece so I put it into the storage area rather than get totally rid of it for now.
I wrote a giant (for me) check today and I'm glad I don't do that often. I needed to move some momey from one place to another and the two places happen to be one of the few instances where I do not have electronic linkage. I was surprised that I could find a check for this account but I did and wrote it out and put it in an envelope and into the snail mail. I feel so last century.
The moving of this money means my rainy day fund is not quite as large as it has been. But Capital One slashed their interest rate and it was just stupid to let it sit there getting dusty. It will go to a better place where it can get a good earning job and if I really need it, I can get to it.
On a now very much related note, work is sl o w. So far today, I've worked exactly 1 billable hour. And it's now noon. That ain't going to keep Travis and Betty in canned food.
On another related note the latest financial news gave the stock market a little shot in the arm so the rollar coaster that is my Ameritrade account is climbing up the hill for a change today which is nice.

I had the oddest online shopping experience ever this week. I found a really good price on an item I wanted at a website www.TheCameraProfessionals.com and I ordered it. I had never shopped there before but I shop lots of places I've never shopped before and there were no red flags or other odd things about the website.
I got a confirmation number and then an email. The email instructed me to call a toll free number for credit card veriification. WTF? It reads as if this is routine for all their sales. I highly object. I called to voice that objection but, guess what? While my call is very important to them, all of their representatives are busy with other customers. I waited 7 minutes. I tried 3 times yesterday and 3 times today. Then I sent an email to them to tell them to cancel my order and telling them I would alert the credit card company not to pay.
I did call the credit card company and they offered to block the vendor for 24 hours OR I could wait until the charge hit, if it does, and then file a dispute. Or I could cancel the card and they would re-issue. I took door #2. We'll see what happens.
Now I need to rustle up something for lunch!
