Or at least the mole on the top of my head. I so can't handle doctors. Ugh. But, I'm tired of this damn thing. Here's what I'm shooting for:

Doctor: Hmmm well, that's a little annoying isn't it? Want me to pop it off for you? Won't take a minute. There, all gone. Might be tender for a couple of days but after that, you'll never know it was there. Come back and see me anytime.

Whaddya think are my chances? Apt. 9:45 a.m.

Probably depends on the mole. I've needed stitches on both of mine, but neither was well-placed and one was a punch biopsy which takes more flesh than just the mole (a little bit, not a lot). So...grain of salt. :)

Even with what I said, it's not a huge dose of reality. The stitches in both of mine weren't bad. (The one on my back was the worse of the two because my waistband would catch on them, but even that was a nuisancy sting, nothing more, when it happened.) I won't say it's not uncomfortable, but I will say that for me it wasn't anything approaching agony - a brief discomfort, then the minor nuisance of caring for it with the ointment they told me to spread on it, and then the minor nuisance of having the stitches out.

And if the mole's small, maybe they won't even need the stitches. You were smart enough not to have it where it would be moving a lot or right under clothes, after all! :)

*grins* That works! For whatever it's worth, my stitches meant a followup visit, but each time it was really mild as complications go. Since a nurse can remove the stitches, I didn't even have to see the doctor - once I saw the dermatology nurse (for the punch biopsy: they wanted to have someone with some knowledge have a look at it, since that one was suspicious) and once I was told to just walk into the walk-in nurse clinic (they were removing that one before it could become a problem and weren't suspicious of it at all, really). It didn't take very long at all. Still a followup, but...yeah. Really easy. :)

The glass if half full...

I was born with a harmless facial tumor. It ran from my nose to my chin and covered half of my mouth. They removed it when I was two months old.

But I was left with a permanant reminder - a growth right under my nose. It has to be removed every 4 or 5 years.

I also have had about 6 moles removed from various parts of the body.

It's disturbing to ponder the actual removal, but actually quite quick and virtuously painless. And remember, leaving them promotes the chances that something harmless becomes something not so harmless.

Just be thankful that these days - they recognize that and they can zap it in a few seconds. It's much better to endure the anxiety of that than the increased risk that they turn on you later.

Just remember that it is a good thing that we live in such an age.

:)

My daughter's mole removal

My daughter had a mole that was on the back of her neck. It was the size of a peanut M&M. Her pediatrician said we could either go the dermatologist or the plastic surgeon. She though the plastic surgeon would give better looking results. So we chose that.

We went, he looked about 30 seconds worth, he said come back next Thursday, he only did procedures on that day.

So we did. It was pretty quick. Local anesthetic. Scalpel, not the punch thing. I was in the room. He put on rubber gloves, but he didn't even have on a doctor coat, just his shirt and tie. He gave Kathleen special bandaids and told her to not let it get wet for a while.

I think there is a very slight scar, but better than the mole.
