When I'm 64
Mar. 28th, 2008 11:15 amThanks to all for birthday wishes.
I'm not 64. I'm only 59. But so far 59 is lovely.
I've never been shy or concerned or dismayed by my age. Before I was 6, I was desperate to get there so I could go to school (that took about 1 day to get over). Before I was 16, I would have walked over cut glass to get a drivers license (and, I was behind the wheel, fully licensed by noon on my 16th birthday!). During my teen-aged drama years, I could not fathom living beyond age 27 (don't ask cause I have no clue).
After that the milestones became pebbles and I did not really pay much attention or care. As a baby boomer of the female persuasion, my years served me well in the areas I cared about - credibility and maturity. I could say that I never had looks to loose but who's to say I ever lost 'em! ha!!
My friend John made a huge honkin' deal out of my 40th birthday - he made it into an all day affair at work and after - it was great fun.
My friends Jon and Page turned our Las Vegas trip into a great way to spend my 50th birthday.
I've got no plans for today nor for the 60th. What happens happens and I'll be delighted.
I love being this old. I love my history. I have a great ability to gloss over my most horrible mistakes and embarrassments and I work hard, happily successfully, to actively appreciate where I've gotten to now. I often wonder how and why I got so lucky but mostly I'm just grateful.
So now I think I'll put in a load of laundry and then whip up some udon soup for lunch!

Date: 2008-03-29 12:34 am (UTC)I was in quite a tailspin thinking I'd actually missed it. Funny how the notifications disappear so early on the 'day of'. I hope that the rest of your day is perfect and that you will celebrate many, many more happy and healthy birthdays.
