I remember before I could read, Daddy would make a big deal - every Sunday morning - out of the funny paper. He had a broadcaster's voice and he would read his favorites out load to me with gusto. He'd save his very favorite until last - Dagwood and Blondie just cracked him up and he'd polish off the week's rendition with their latest adventure.
When I learned to read, for years, it was the only part of the Sunday paper I ever touched.
And then I fell out of love with the funny paper. I never got into comics. When I found a New Yorker magazine, I would (and still do) thumb through looking for the cartoons but that was about it for me and funnies.
Until the cheezburger. I have a special LJ Friends page for Icanhascheesurger (http://syndicated.livejournal.com/hascheezburger/) and it's sister site Ihashotdog (http://syndicated.livejournal.com/i_has_a_hot_dog/) and just clicking on the page makes me smile. And most days I laugh out loud several times. These guys just get right to my funny bone and shake it around. Brilliant. I love that they are both Seattle products.

i can has cheezburger comes out of Seattle?? HOLY SHIT! I had no idea, and that's awesome. Those photos are sprinkled among the friends list that I read every day -- I often go straight from one of your posts to one of theirs.
I think they're even better than Cute Overload, because the humor is so, well, I guess you could say, cute but twisted. I love it so, sooo much! I actually send one in every email I send out to POS at PCC after batching happens in our system. I like to use it to make other people smile too.

Date: 2008-04-04 08:02 pm (UTC)I think what I love about it is the punchline timing.... You read the top - and you have to sound out a lot of them - and then see the picture and then get the punchline and it's nearly always a surprise.
Cuteoverload is cute but icanhascheeseburger and the dog one is just 10 or more points above really clever most all the time and, yep, sharing is just nearly unavoidable (hence my entry!!!)

Date: 2008-04-04 10:28 pm (UTC)I think it owes a lot of its success due to the fact that the entries have to be voted on. Which weeds out the really unfunny ones.
