The bits so far today...
Apr. 8th, 2008 09:39 amNo newspaper at all. I went to the corner and bought one and then called my offshore friends back and once again learned how very sorry they were and that my name is Susan and they are compensated on how very many times they can use that in a call. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I have found a solution to the pledge drive plague!! Streaming from the Morning Edition web page! Doh. Except my bedroom computer has the worst speakers. I had a pair of small speakers that were older than democracy (seriously, I think they were for my original Sony Walkman), but I finally gave them to Goodwill during the last purge. Then I remembered my 'server' computer has speakers. So I robbed Peter to pay Paul.
In that process I had to move the night stand out to get to the electrical outlet.
In that process I found the motherload of Travis' toys. He loves those little furry mice that you get a the grocery store - 5 for $4. Every morning we play fetch with one until he loses is. There were about 3 weeks worth under the nightstand!!
Next time I'm somewhere, I'll pick up a pair of those small, cheap MP3 player speakers but for now, I'm totally set.
I also dug out an old website that I used constantly when I had my Treo. It's a list of all public radio shows/stations/etc. You can chose your favorite show and find out where it's currently streaming or chose your station or podcast ... he's got a bascillion options. Public Radio Fan. It's a treasure.

This is apparently Twitter week! All of a sudden it seems people are either joining up or letting folks know they are tweeterers. I'm getting a fair amount of 'xxx is following you' emails. Half are from clearly commercial concerns and half are people I know or people I know of. I do like Twitter but would like it so much better if my Tweets could automagically get posted to LJ. The collect-all-day-and-then-post model just is not the same.
--
I ordered a new DSL modem from Qwest. The modem I have was born about the same time as those Walkman speakers. The new one has 4 ethernet ports. I think I'm going to try my work laptop on a hardwired connection for a while and see how that goes. And the wireless should be better as well. It's supposed to be here tomorrow but with no tracking number, I'm counting on it when I see it.

It looks like a pretty good lunch trailer day weather wise but now I have no car. Just as well. I could walk - it's about 3 miles from here - but I won't.

Date: 2008-04-08 07:11 pm (UTC)Funny how some stuff is totally tolerable by some and not by others and other stuff is just the reverse!! One of my LJ friends is, hopefully, working on a twitter to lj app...

Date: 2008-04-08 07:35 pm (UTC)I'll play with Google Talk (the client itself) when I get home tonight, I think, and see if I can get it to connect to LJ. They're both using the same protocol!

Date: 2008-04-08 06:28 pm (UTC)Could you have a look at the laptop that I bought today, not the pink one in the photo but the one on the URL in my post.
Someone says not to run it with the Vista that's pre-installed as it could break it,and I really liked the shiney look of Vista
Many thanks if you can help

Date: 2008-04-08 06:38 pm (UTC)YES you should use Vista - it is shiney and fun and, in many ways, far more intuitive and easier to understand that any other operating system I've ever used. You have enough memory and a big enough processor and a big enough harddrive that Vista will perform beautifully for you.
There is no reason whatsoever to install any other operating system on your pretty new machine. Sure, something may break but any and all operating systems will do that. Shit happens. I'm tempted to go back and collect all of the comments that were made when XP came out about how it would ruin the world as we knew it!
Fear not and enjoy. You'll be fine.
Thank you!
Date: 2008-04-08 06:48 pm (UTC)I'm glad I asked you, I wouldn't have taken it out anyway as it's one of the reasons that I bought it.
Looking at the price of the programme, around £200 here,I've got the laptop for a very nice price!
And the screen is big and I just started it up and the sample pictures look lovely. I hope my photos look good there ..you know how I like my photos..ha!

CUT YOUR HAIR??!! Wow. I'm not sure I would recognize you :)! And what about the kiddies? A friend of mine shaved his beard and his grandchildren would have nothing to do with him for weeks! "Pawpaw is broken!"
