I have not been very vigilant about running Roomba lately.  So when I do, it has a huge job to do.  And it takes forever and it complains about its brushes needing cleaning. This model is way less noise than earlier ones but it is still enough of a noise to be annoying and that's why I neglect to set it to go.   Earlier in the week, I finally ran it one day on the front half of the house and one day on the back and vowed to run it every other day.

My plan was to set it to go on the days I do treadmill at the gym (Sunday, Wednesday and Friday).  I did just that today and it had no complaints and finished up in half the time.  I think my plan is good.  Roomba is smarter than I am.

Does the Roomba have any trouble with rugs-on-rugs? Like, wall-to-wall carpeting that has another rug on top of it. Also, I'd imagine that it would have some troubles with something like a cowskin on top of burber (sp)?

I would love to get a roomba since both me and my partner hate vacuuming, but I think we might have "complicated" carpet.

So.... I got a Roomba 550 at Costco! I had fun this weekend putting it through it's paces. It does pretty well on the different carpets/floors. Except for one thing-- we have a large area rug over burbur that has large black areas, and the Roomba is just convinced that the black parts are cliffs. It won't clean it!

Other than that, it works quite well. I can see how different style homes are more "roomba-friendly". Condos and houses on one level obviously win. I suspect if we end up liking it, we'll probably put a base station on each level of our house... although maybe that's overkill. I like how it goes completely *under* a good share of our furniture. Although, there are a couple of 'roomba traps' that I have to remember to block off. One planter has a bar across the bottom that is just slightly lower than the roomba can get under, but it tries anyway and gets wedged.

I like that you can just set it to clean the room automatically at a certain time, too.

The hard part this weekend was trying to ignore it. I ended up just watching it for long periods, until I'd realize what I was doing-- hell I might as well just vacuum myself instead of sitting here just watching it! LOL...
