Talking in Twitter

I've never been totally comfortable with IM except in certain circumstances. There are a few IM folks I talk to who IM in ways that are very comfortable to me - short bursts, used when other communications means are not as appropriate and, generally, for emergencies only.

Other kinds of IM conversations make me feel tied to the computer which is stupid since I am always tied to the computer anyway, but I just never seem to get the rhythm under control and so never quite get the benefit.

But... talking in Twiter is just my style. Quick, drive by comments with no expectation of reply or even reading. It took a while to get the hang but I like it.

I keep my Gmail chat window open most of the time and my Twitters come in there. Several of my Twitter follow-ees direct their twitters to someone specific. I only get their side of the repartee but that's ok. I'm a voyeur of pictures and words.

And when someone Twits to me directly, I do not feel compeled to answer but take it as an option to do if I like.

Now, if fj would just get his app ready for the public.... My Twitters could be sprinkled throught my journal in real time instead of all batched together way after the fact. Then, I'd have to find something else entirely to bitch about.

I looked at the Twitter site but haven't signed up yet. My "bad habit" is two or three sentence emails...then I think of another two or three sentences and before I know it I've stuffed somebody's mailbox with bits and pieces that could all go in one big email at the end of the day.

I wonder if there's a Twitter type program for that. I could just use my drafts folder, but by the time I've weeded through them (doesn't it seem like that past tense should be "wed?") I lose the new thought.
