I've been under the knife... Well, actually it was a little pick looking thing. But my bump is gone and I have three or four (can't really tell) stitches in it's place on the top of my head.

The hardest part of the whole thing was getting comfortable on this fancy dancy padded adjustable table. The damn thing had so many adjustments that the nurse spent about half of the time just screwing with them. And she never got close to achieving comfort. I finally told her it was fine since I didn't plan to spend a whole lot of time on it.

The cheery doctor did his thing and got it off and stitched me up and told me to try and keep it dry. And then, half way out the door he says that the nurse will take out my stitches in 10 days and by that time he should have the results from the biopsy. Now... this is the first time he has ever ever mentioned biopsy. See, this is what I love about doctors. Who says I want to know the results of a biopsy???!!! Geesh.

Anyway, I went home and snapped a photo ([livejournal.com profile] joyofmacs, you shall have your Film at 11 - or rather before and after pics when I get home), slapped on my wig and went back to work.

Glad it went well. They ususally do a biopsy...they even did 2 on the giant corns I had removed from my right foot...since ya never know and also it is one of those CYA things plus it runs the price up.

i toldya!

they always send stuff they cut off to a lab for analysis ... for exactly the reasons mentioned above.

isn't that why you had it removed in the first place? so you'd know it wasn't scary or dangerous?

It is standard procedure to look at it as far as I am aware. I'm getting a mole removed on the 4th that will be biopsied, though mine is being removed because it is possibly cancerous.

However, that's definitely something that should have been brought up, I don't know, BEFORE he went after you with the knife. Not while he's walking out the door like it is some sort of afterthought.

Whew! I know you are happy to be done with it! And they always do the biopsy. That is just standard operating procedure - that way, they don't have to guess around as to whether it looks weird enough to send to the lab. They send everything, charge your insurance. Their asses are covered and the lab is REALLY happy. It's a racket - but one that the insurance company can't really do anything about since it is in your best interest to have the test done. I've had lots and lots of thing "sent to the lab". Don't you know the "lab" is one damn scary place?
