When my friend John was alive and used to come for Christmas, one of our favorite things to do was get on one of the ferries at night and ride it to Bainbridge or Bremerton and then just stay on and ride it back and see all the pretty Christmas lights on both ends. Now they won't let you stay on - you have to get off and then get back on - but still, it's a nice little December night pleasure.

The Summer I was 6, my parents went to Hawaii and dumped me and my sister (5) and my brother (2) at grandma and grandpas in Oklahoma City. We were in hog heaven. My Grandma was the greatest Grandma on the face of the earth. And she had no end of great adventures for us. One of the very best was the bus ride. Oklahoma City had just gotten its first air conditioned buses. We walked down to the corner and got on one of the new, fancy, air conditioned buses and rode it all the way to the end and back again! To the very day, I can conjure up the thrill of it.

machupicchu, celebrates his birthday for a week every year. He takes the week off from work and does fun things. Today he and his friend, Barbara, are going to take the commuter train to Tacoma and back. Because they have never been on the commuter train and they can and it's fun. And they are letting me crash their party and go with them!! It was only last Fall that they put in the ride from Tacoma back to Seattle at the end of the day which makes this adventure possible.

So just after 3 this afternoon, I'll cross my parking lot and meet them at the station and we'll take the train down to Tacoma and then ride it right back.

I'm very excited.
