For the past few weeks from about 5 p.m. until I go get in bed to read before sleep (10), I have been eating non-stop. Anything and everything. And also way more snacking in the afternoons as well.

Last night when I got up to go to bed I felt like I had eaten a dozen basketballs. At this rate, I'm going to be a Dr. Oz special any minute. I'm not particularly hungry. I just start thinking.... mmmm an apple would be good or Oh! I've got cheese! or raisin bran and milk... or time for a - heck, fill in the blank, nearly anything will fit.

I need to stop doing this.

In the olden days - like before last March, I would drink Diet Dr. Pepper for a snack. And with meals and just about every other time. I gave that up for iced tea. I gave that up for iced water. Neither iced tea or iced water give me enough of a snack feel. They are a go-with-a-snack drinks, not a stand alone snack. I'm wondering if maybe going back to Diet Dr. Pepper wouldn't be a smart move.

On the other hand, at least all this getting off my ass to get something to eat is exercise?

Diet drinks are really nasty and full of chemicals, and mess with your insulin levels just about as much as the full sugar version so probably better to have healthy snacks and water, not that I want to sound all disapproving and know-it-all, I'm very much a live and let live type of person. And I can understand it's enough already when you're going to bed feeling as if you're eating a dozen basketballs! :-) Tricky situation! Maybe there are some other stand-alone snack drinks that are healthier? Would be quite fun to investigate actually...

Maybe keep hunting drink alternatives to see what makes you feel satisfied. Or see if you can find a light snack that is better for you than the chemical slurry of a DDP but that satisfies you. (Or heck, even a heavy snack that satisfies you sounds like it might be an improvement. :)

I have been surprised to find that apple juice works surprisingly well for me, in the little mini-serving cans, because it's sweet, liquid, and I've finished something off. Your mileage may (and probably will!) vary. (I'd use the Kern's fruit nectars, which I love, the same way if only I could get them in 4-ounce cans. There's just too much for a casual snack in the bigger cans, but storing them after opening is a pain too. Ostensibly they have 5.5 ounce cans in a six-pack, but no one around here has those. Oh well!)

Don't try to cut all the snacks out at once, it never works for me. Try cutting one snack a day for a week and when you have accomplished that, go for another.

And hell, you're working out every day so why shouldn't you have a snack or two, or three, etc.
