In a past life...

This morning I got an email from a guy I went to college with. He said he was scanning in a bunch of photos and when he got to this one of his brother in class at college, he noticed me! (bigger versions on click)



That's his brother on the black phone. It's a journalism class and I'm pretty sure we were doing a 'technical' demonstration of a phone interview. Note the fancy technology!

And...yep... that's me.



I'm shocked on about 42 different levels. Here are just a few:

• I seriously do not ever remember being that pretty.
• The year had to be 70 or 71 - was I already out of my hippy phase??
• I swear to you my hair was never that thick
• There are way more women in that class than I remember being in the journalism department.
• That is one short skirt.
• Whatever snotty, snappy, witty or witless thing you think I was thinking, is probably exactly what I was thinking.

Oh totally! I should have had that on the list. And look how it's not even wrinkled! Honestly, I think this may be some other chick wearing my face. Maybe... it's a twin I never new about!!

When I see pictures of myself from that era, I am amazed at how skinny I was. I never really thought about weight in my late teens and early 20s, so I wasn't one of those people who would insist, in the face of all sorts of contrary evidence, that I was fat. But I certainly didn't think of myself as slender. Yet I clearly was.

Oh I always felt fat and knew I was, and really had no evidence to the contrary. Until I see a picture like this. It's baffling.

I know! I can't quit looking at it myself. And how amazingly random that it turned up and this guy (with whom I have had very little contact over the past 35+ years) sends it to me? Life is sometimes just amazing.

Um, lady? You were pretty. You're still pretty. It's your spirit. You can't see it in the mirror (none of us really see ourselves in mirrors) but it is so obvious in this picture, and in that group picture with the cream suit. Yeah, skinny, good hair, nice legs, knows how to dress, but look at that smile, look at how she is talking to people and reaching out. That's pretty.
