I have a tooth that keeps thinking it might hurt. I keep trying to ignore it. I'm so not interested in a dental adventures.

My work laptop is rarely unplugged. Yesterday I decided to unplug it and see how long the battery lasts. 3 year old Toshiba. Battery went to 5% in 28 minutes. I think we call that UPS. Geesh. Good thing I don't really need it to operate it unplugged.

Right this minute, I'm running the same test on my Lifebook. It has run unplugged some. Right now it says it has 3 hours left.

Seattle's summer isn't long. Usually you can only count on July and August for hot weather. But, we have double the number of event planners and they think that July and August are each 8 weeks long. There are a bascillion different major things going on this weekend all over town and the surrounding areas.

I live in Pioneer Square which is having their annual Fire Festival - lots of lovely looking firefighters on display... And next door is the International District and they are having their annual festival - dragons and firecrackers and drums and all manner of wonderful, colorful stuff.

My plans are to wander over to the Fire Festival. I may also do the International District but it tends to be way too crowded so I might blow it off. I need a few groceries and the Japanese market will be way too packed to even attempt it so I'll probably nip out in the car. The Mariners are playing in Kansas City so no traffic to fight.

My Rosie date is in an hour so I'm just futzing around now.

With regard to dental adventures, your teeth don't care what you're interested in. Really. Early attention can minimize the adventurousness of it all. Trust me. I spent most of yesterday sitting on the couch and eating soft food as I recover from having a particularly messy split tooth extracted. It didn't hurt all that much, probably because I'm on pain killers for other ailments.

If I lived in Seattle, I would gladly trade off escort duty. The oral surgeon I saw yesterday had questions on the intake forms about who was driving you home if you had a general anesthetic. I hadn't planned on that at all, and it totally threw me. Fortunately, the novocaine did it, and the doctor was very good about giving me an extra jolt when I said (mumbled) that I thought the first shots might be thinking about wearing off. But, yeah, there's a big disconnect between the plausible needs of same-day surgery of any sort and the realities of people's lives. I know there are people around here who would drive me under those circumstances, but they're not people I would feel comfortable asking. Yet, medical and dental offices don't incorporate those realities in their practice.
