My neighbor, Ann, just stopped in to tell me that Richie Sexon, a player we paid way too much for and never did squat, is going to the Yankees. I'm sure he will start hitting the moment he puts on pinstripes. Happens all the time. What.fucking.ever.

Ann is a few years older than I am and she told me that she first got interested in baseball when she was in 6th grade. Anyone who wanted to could skip recess and, instead, listen to the World Series in the classroom. The classroom was loaded with all the cool boys, so that was the draw for Ann. Along the way she learned to love baseball.

I can totally understand.

For me it was Coke.

On the screened in back porch, Grandpa would settle in front of the TV where Dizzy Dean and Peewee Reece would do the play by play. If you were very very quiet, you got to watch with him and not get kicked out. If you could last until the 7th inning you could have a Coca-Cola and drink it right out of the bottle. This was a thrill beyond the pale - illegal in my Mom's house. I always made it to the 7th inning and got the love of baseball in the payoff.

Sexson is hitting .344 against lefties this year. Jason Giambi hits .229 against lefties. It's pretty easy to see what the Yankees are going to do, and I'll bet they are going to have a ton of success with it. I don't know whether to be frustrated or just happy that he's off the team to begin with.
