I'm sitting here knitting teddy bear ears watching Last Comic Standing and my doorbell rings.  The door is open so I holler for whoever to come on it.  It was Ms. City Council from next door telling me that there was a unit on fire down the hall.  Then she left.  I went down the hall and sure enough, Kathy and Doug's unit has the smoke alarm going off and a distinctly stinky smell.  Kathy and Doug live in San Diego and rent the place  I pounded on the door but got no answer.  So I came back home and then heard the fire trucks.

Two giant firemen came down the hallway and kicked the door in and stayed about a minute and then came out coughing.  Food was cooking on the stove and no one was home.  My neighbors across the hallway came out and said there were a bascillion fire trucks and fire fighters in front.  They invited me in to look from there terrace and, indeed, Ms. City Council can flat round up some firemen, I'll give her that.  Whew.

I visited with Doug and Renae (the couple across the hall) for a long time.  They've lived there for about 3 years and seem really nice.  Their unit is beautiful.  It was renovated extensively by the previous owner and all they did was add more.  It's lush.

They were very nice to visit with.  She works at Starbucks HQ and he manages buildings around town.  He offered to help me with anything I needed fix it wise and we all agreed to swapping cat tending.  It was fun.

The hallway stinks.

Did the cookers of the burnt food ever come home? And did they apologize to the neighbors? Enquiring minds want to KNOW!

Well that was a weird way to meet the neighbors. How come there was food cooking with nobody there?

The visiting sounds fun, shame about the stinky hallway. Hope the air clears soon.
