I have to say that having teeth impressions made is not all that much fun.   It's way way way better than anything else I've ever had done in a dental chair but it is uggy and messy and just not that much fun.  I know part of it is because no one ever tells me what is going to happen.  I think I would feel far less anxious if people would just explain!

"I'm going to put some thick gross mud like stuff all around your teeth and then I'm going to jam this metal mold full of the stuff down onto your bottom teeth and hold it here for oh, I don't know, maybe a minute or more and then pull it off.  Then we'll repeat with the upper teeth and then we'll clean up the mess all over your face and chest and give you some mouthwash to get the icky taste out of your mouth and we'll be done!"

How hard would that have been to explain????  Geesh.  I wonder if I'm going to get two mouth guards ...  I could have asked, but didn't.  I go back a week from Monday to get it/them.

The receptionist lady said she would submit the bill to my insurance.  I asked her if she wanted me to pay for it all now since I was pretty sure the insurance company was going to laugh but she said no.  She did say that it was likely they would not pay for more than half if they paid any so I paid half.  I know the insurance company will want a $50 deductible from Wednesday's visit anyway so I don't think I'm over paying anything.  It is nice of them, however, to be so generous about it all.

I also remembered to get a prescription for the ethedent toothpaste.  I used it way back last time I went to the dentist and it really did help with sensitivity.  It's a bit pricey but I now know it's worth it.  I picked up a tube on the way home and had the dentist fax in the prescription with refills to my online pharmacy.

And then I walked home.

I had planned to stop in several places downtown but most weren't open yet.  I perused the new grocery store which is in the middle of town in the old Kresge building.  They have done a lovely job with it.   I thought I'd pop into Ross and see if they had anything interesting on sale but they weren't open yet.  I thought I'd pop into the big library and see what books they have on CD that I might have missed in their data base, but they weren't open yet.  Several other possibilities weren't open yet either so I ended up back home by 10.

It is a lovely morning out.  I learned quickly that if I meandered around the wind blocking buildings, I had a beautiful breeze for the whole walk.  Perfect weather actually.

My project manager does not expect much, if any, work for me today.  I could poll some of the other project managers but I really don't like working with any of them so asking for it is kind of silly.  I have budgeted for lean times money wize and I think I'll just find my own entertainment and enjoy the time off.

Which brings me back to the whole tooth thing.  I have been reading about teeth grinding and jaw clinching and most of what I'm reading indicates that the leading cause is stress.  I cannot imagine anyone anywhere who has less stress in their life than I do.  Wonder why I do it.

My dentist did explain that process, but also snapped a tooth he had just expensively rebuilt, so I wouldn't recommend swapping!

Oh lordy, getting impressions done is the WORST. First time I had to have it done, the dumbass tech INSISTED that I lie back in the chair for it. I kept telling her if I did that, I would puke and I needed to be able to sit up. Oh no, can't do that.

I puked **on her**. I was quite pleased.

When I told the story to another tech the next time I had to have it done - her words, "Sit, stand, whatever, just don't throw up on me!"

Maybe you should mention that to them? I'd say "and ask" but it's so hard to know what to ask and when if the people who do know don't volunteer the info, sometimes!

Maybe you're stressed out from not having enough stress in your life?

About the stress...I just know you from your journal. I know you love your work and your day-to-day routine, but some of what you describe as the actual work-flow (not knowing how much work there will be in a day, having rush jobs come in at a time when you've made other plans that you then have to cancel, etc.) strikes me as potentially stressful.

Well, I hope you made a good impression.

One thing I love about my dentist, she does tell me before she starts just what she's going to do. And after she usually gives me a hug.

There's a play I saw years ago called "Lips Together, Teeth Apart" which starts out with a stressed out person describing this as the mantra his shrink gave him. Whenever I catch myself grinding my teeth, I follow that advice.
