It's the little things...
Aug. 21st, 2008 01:37 pmThat make me happy. I got a hankerin' to try something new knitting wize and needed a needle I do not have. I went on line and found what I needed at several websites but then thought that was silly to just order one knitting needle. I don't need yarn right now and I'm trying not to spend money I don't need to... I had no work on my plate so I thought, heck, why don't I just get into the car and go to a yarn shop.
Seattle has long been totally over blessed with yarn shops. I'm amazed really how so many of them survived back when there were only a handful of us knitting. (And at least one of us who never buys yarn shop yarn because it is mostly not washable and never cheap and all I use for my bears and fishes is cheap washable.)
Today when knitting is the In thing still, we have even more wonderful and really amazingly well stocked yarn shops. I picked the one closest to me to start. The needle I wanted was not a common one so I figured it would be likely most shops won't carry it.
Wrong - o. First shop out of the barrel had a fascinating selection of needles that included the exact one I wanted. I enjoyed wandering around the shop looking at all the yarn. It is sooo sooo sooo expensive but so much of it is beautiful and the possibilities are so endless. I love that everyone is knitting because it makes the knitting for all of us so much more fun!
And... sewing, too. Sewing is all part of the DIY movement and is and has been also on the comeback trail. The fabric outlet down the street has this great kiosk of patterns from Project Runway. I watch a couple of blogs from Threadbangers where they show how people are really thinking outside the sewing box. The freedom and creativity is just so amazing to see.

Knitting and Sewing

Date: 2008-08-22 02:36 am (UTC)I love the idea of your making a quilt out of your Mom's fabrics. What a great memory maker.
I actually do have some pictures of knitting. Here's my old knitting web page and here are are my flicker knitting pix. I used to pretty much only make afghans for our AIDS hospices here in Seattle so most of the pictures here are of the different afghans. A couple of years ago I switched to teddy bears and then a few months ago I added fish. My knitting is my excuse to watch as much TV as I want since I knit while I watch.
Thanks for chiming in!
