RMA pour MOI
Sep. 17th, 2008 04:58 pmMy new EVDO modem arrived... all shiny and pretty and ready for work. So I gave it a test drive first on my little Lifebook.
I just jabbed 'er in and clicked on Ok about 40 million times and rebooted and BAM! I'm up and running at a speed that I can live with for sure. Maybe not do a bunch of work but at least get critical things done and check email and be alive, workwise. For internet play, it's fine and dandy.
Sweet. Until.
I jabbed 'er into my Toshiba work laptop. I clicked OK about 40 million times and rebooted and nothing. No joy at all. The device manager says it does not like the device which usually means drivers.
Since 3GStore.com told me over and over again to call them if I had any problems, I called them. 90 minutes of trying everything except hard drugs later, we declared failure. The tech was very techy but very nice and very respectful and caught on quickly that I knew there is no any key and so we actually probably did 180 minutes of troubleshooting in those 90 minutes. His diagnosis was Sierra (maker of hardware) drivers hate my Toshiba.
One of the reasons I chose 3GStore was the hand holding and the return options. But, before I give up, the tech guy suggested I try a different modem. So back to Scott in sales. He's sending me another kind of USB modem and the RMA info for the Sierra. This time next week, we should have a verdict.
I could spend $165ish and get a battery operated router but I just can't see doing that. Yet. I guess.
I am very very glad I picked 3GStore. The very idea of going through what I went through this afternoon with Sprint techs, makes me want to shoot myself.
I'm so very pooped. And now some cats, who seem to not care one bit about my modem issues, want dinner. Ingrates.
