Server Woes
Feb. 22nd, 2003 09:04 amI have three different web hosting options. Susandennis.com is on my ISP (drizzle.net) which is the most expensive in terms of storage. My ISP is local and they are fabulous in every way but they aren't in the buisiness of cheap disk space. I pay $400 a year for 40MB of web space, DSL Internet connection, 3 POP3 email addresses (in addition to my susandennis.com addresses), SMTP service from home, backup dial up service and wonderful support.
Karolene.com (hostabox.com) holds about 400MB's of photos - mainly from my photo-a-day project that I did for a couple of years when they were building the new stadium. This host also provides me with SMTP services which I need for my private email at work. There are a couple of other little goodies offered by this host. All for $18.00 a quarter. Oh this is now where my webcam shots are living.
Susandennis.org (adaptive.net) is hosted at a place that also gives me 300MB of storage on an NT machine so I can run a couple of databases with ASP pages. It also houses most of the pics you see here, my picture galleries and my knitting journal. Not bad for $6.50 a month.
Yesterday Susandennis.org started sputtering. Last night it died. The hosting company is pretty good and not long ago they started posting status on the control panel. Since about 6 p.m. yesterday, the web server status has said "Rebuilding RAID array. Up later tonight.." And, that's what it says now.
It's kind of tricky to keep track of all of this but it gives me great options. The webcam's were broken last night because they were on susandennis.org. I switched them over to karolene.com. I have backups of everything - or nearly everything but those could use some organization.
But now I think I'll go to Costco.

Date: 2003-02-22 10:51 am (UTC)When I first set up this maze, I didn't use unique domain names. I hit a couple of rogue hosting companies and had to change all the links. I'm not sure why it took me so long to catch on, but I finally did get domain names so now if I have to change hosts, it's painless.
I sure hope this one comes back up because it's the one that is the most difficult to replicate since it's about the cheapest NT host I've ever found. And I have to have at least one NT in the chain for my databases. Oh what a web we weave... etc.
