Saturday miscellaney

I have no big plans and not even a very good list of stuff that I want to do.

• My newspapers and some boxes need to go down to the recycling dumpster.
• I have stuff in three places that needs to go to goodwill - at a minimum, it needs to all get in the car.
• I have one load of laundry that wants to be laundered.
• The library has several holds waiting for me.  So I'll probably scoot by there and the grocery.
• I bought a shirt at Sears a few weeks ago - a Sears brand.  I've worn and washed it a couple of times and I love it.  I think I'll pop by today and get me another one.

I love my new keyboard.  teasdale has one just like it and she likes the purple.  I'm with her.

Most all of my reading these days is done via my ears.  I love audio books. I  can read and knit and read and play computer games and read and workout and read and eat.  Easily.  My library has downloadable audio books from two different sources.  But, the selection is kind of limited even with two different electronic libraries.  So I supplement with books on CD that I check out from the library and rip to MP3's (then I also 'sew' them together so each book is one big file).  The beauty of this is that I can absorb as many books as the library can provide.  I rip and save for when I am ready to read them.  The library even has an RSS feed that I subscribe to that lets me know what new books on CD they have gotten lately. 

I have lots and lots and lots of books now MP3'd.   And finding room and keeping them organized is not that trivial.  I lost one book the other day.  And finally found it this morning - it had gotten into another folder somehow and misnamed.   I did finally move a bunch of those I've already read to an external drive I no longer use.  I need to come up with a better plan. 

But for now I think I'll just get going.

I've just started to embrace the audio book but am having a hard time finding my spot when I come back. Do you have any tips? The CD player I use for the CDs loses my place every time and it's not really practical to leave it on pause for a day or two, but it also plays MP3s so is quite handy in that way. I do have an ipod but am reluctant to even try to upload to it, that thing is quite difficult to manage! And I'm not even sure if it saves my place when I switch it off. I'll give it a try today but if there's anything else that works I'd love to hear about it.

I totally understand! Bookmarking is critical to my book listening! I use a Creative Zen that lets me set up to 10 bookmarks. Many of the Creative MP3 players have bookmarking. In addition, if I turn it off while it is playing (not paused), it starts up again where I left off when I turn it back on. This is not nearly as fullproof as the bookmark but might work with other things.

I think I might have to invest in an MP3 player. I find the ipod completely user unfriendly (could be just me but I'm not usually all that stupid when it comes to using things). I'll give it a test run this afternoon if I'm in a patient mood.

Are your webcams stuck by the way? Thought I'd drop by for a minute but it looks like the middle of the night! :-)

I have used the Creative Zen V Plus

Both have bookmarking and are way easy to use. I've never had an iPod or iAnything actually so I can't compare really.

I'm either retarded or those iThings just aren't user friendly. Thanks for the links, definitely worth looking into.
