I am declaring my oven dead. I've never liked it so I'm not in mourning. It's an ugly 10 year old Kenmore. I really don't cook that much. I used the oven for broiling steak and pork chops. Everything else that needs to get hot does so in the toaster oven or the microwave.

The past few times I've done broiling, the stupid thing has not even tried very hard. So I am declaring it dead.

Tonight I ordered a counter top convection oven to go with my toaster oven. I think I'll be using my dead oven for storage. I hate my dishwasher, too. It's loud and it does a half assed job of of cleaning. Some day (soon, I hope) it will join the oven in appliance heaven.

At that point, I think I'll call in a kitchen designer and do it all over. There's a good guy who has done other kitchens here in this building so at least I know who to call. The rich people who live here have all yanked out their appliances and replaced them. The women who developed these condos did a fabulous job with so many things, but they sure blew it with the appliances.

Our fridge has been on its last legs for a while now - it makes horrid screeching noises (which I have mentioned on LJ before, but it was too long ago to find). But before we got around to buying a new fridge, the dishwasher gave out (it would run fine, but never move from one cycle to another). So we replaced that a couple of weeks ago. Our built-in microwave blew up a couple years ago; over the weekend, we finally got around to taking it out. I spent a good deal of time today painting the wall behind it, and installing a shelf where we put the other microwave that had been sitting on a counter for the past two years. When I was being butch last month, we put in a new floor. We finally picked out a fridge, but I can't order it until the Sears phone center opens again tomorrow morning.

Little by little, we are getting our kitchen back into order.

[livejournal.com profile] slinkr has a dirty secret, that she was a tool-free lesbian until [livejournal.com profile] fj and I gave her a drill for her birthday. She is so lucky to have us to look after her.

i've been lusting after one for a while now ... my current microwave is ok, but i'd probably do more oven stuff if i had one of those.

We moved into this house last year and renovated the whole kitchen. All new appliances. The others were the originals in the house (70s) Remember Harvest Gold? A nightmare.

Anyway, I pretty much get what I want by price. The only advice I have is get the dishwasher that is insulated for quietness. It makes a big difference. That was the only thing I sort of splurged on. Got one of those glass topped stoves at a great discount too. Easy to clean.
