I am a very good knitter. I've been knitting a long time and I've pretty much noodled all the tough parts out. But there is one stitch pattern that has eluded me all these years. It's called entrelac and is kind of a basketweave effect. Years ago I did a sweater that was based on the idea but the pattern was so intricate that I just followed it like a slave and didn't really get ahold of the concept.

Anyway, today, I decided I was going to figure it out or gore myself with my needles trying. I had several false starts but by golly, I got it! I had the Mariner game on the radio while I toiled and Bret Boone hit a grand slam home run about the time I had my AHA! moment. Kind of a fun thing.

Here's what my sample looks like. Initally I was going to try two colors but abandoned that after the first red. I sure do hate these colors (the blue is a lot uglier than what this picture shows - it's what I call Playskool blue) and I have enough of each for a whole afghan. I'm thinking Ebay. No way am I looking at either one of these colors for a whole afghan!

Sounds like you had a great Sunday so far. Going to sell the yarn? Too bad there isn't somewhere to just trade.

I can only crochet a very little. I admire the knitting and the discipline to learn and finish a project.

Congratulations on getting the patterning right - very nice. (I can see why you abandoned the red, it's rather gaudy. The blue might do okay paired with a cream.)

well, I'm glad you let me know this is something I shouldn't attempt.
not that I'm planning to finish out my golden years as a professional knitter, but when I've looked at this, I thought it would be no more complicated than doing cables. so I'll just get those pages stuck together with some peanut butter or something and not bother looking anymore.

I really like that blue

What brand and fiber content is it?

Whoa!! Referring to yourself as, "...a very good knitter" represents a glaring understatement in my estimation! What an amazing level of skill you've developed over the years. As a neophyte knitter (if you call knitting boards and circular frames legitimate knitting processes), I stand in awe.
