Helicopters and cops over the geraniums

When I was coming home from Home Depot, I noticed an unusual traffic jam north of my house. They are doing some road work and there's a show in the exihibition center nearby so I didn't really think anything of it.

Then I come home, do my yard work and sit down to watch the news. I had to shut the door because there was some plane noise and I couldn't hear. Then the news comes on and the first shot is an aerial shot of the corner and block just north of here that is now surrounded by cops! The war protesters apparently have wound their way down here from the center of town.

I went out to the terrace to look and sure enough the place is lousey with cops in riot gear! There are cop cars parked just below my terrace and cops on motorcycles at the intersection I can see from here. Just now they are letting some traffic through. I can hear shouts and whistles even over the helicopter noise.

When the media cameras get close enough, go out to the terrace and WAVE, Susan! I'll turn on a local channel and wait!

The Channel 5 truck just parked and perched up it's dish... at the corner. I wish they wouldn't have waited until too dark for photos! How rude.

I did go out to check at one point and three of the cops looked up and asked me if the view from up here was good. I was going to crack wise about tear gas but even with three floors between you, it just doesn't seem sporting to egg on coppers in riot gear.

Well your fair city has made the big time and is on the front page of the travel section of the Toronto Star newspaper (http://www.torontostar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1035779550223&call_pageid=968867506610&col=969048867196). Unfortuinately the pics in teh actual paper aren't on the web site. They didn't mention any geraniums or riot police at least this time around, but they did say it was a wonderful city to find fridge magnets and afghans.

What a wonderful article! And the writer seemed to get all the good points. Since the geranium exhibit is only hours old we can forgive her the oversight.

Bob ruralrob, the local gardening wizzard says you better watch the geraniums tonight. Your current temp is 9C and if it gets much colder you may be in trouble. By the way we both waved at you a minute ago, but you didn't wave back.
Are we in your bad books?
Sorry to hear about the afghan situation. I mean the one your knitting not the overseas one. It looks difficult, but also great.

I'm not too worried about the geraniums. I had a long talk with them at the store and told them that they were not going to be pampered and if they couldn't stand a little cold and a little parch then they shouldn't hope to come home with me. A few of the skittish ones bowed out.

Sorry about the not waving. I was deeply embedded in Series 3, Disc 2 of As Time Goes By. Very bad form of me.

The afghan - not the overseas one is back on track, thanks. I have a friend in New Zealand who knows afghans as cookies and after years of knowing me still can't make out that I knit them. Silly Kiwi.
