Ah... Thursday
Mar. 27th, 2003 03:02 pmI'm looking forward... 1/2 day off tomorrow... baseball game on tv on Saturday... It's the little things that make me happy and keep me from tearing my hair out (or in this case, my wig) over all the annoyances here at work.
I had lunch today with my manager and a friend of ours who used to do contract work here. My manager proceeded to tell her how morale is in the toilet here and everyone is generally pissed off. I knew I was in a state but I did not know it was so wide spread. Interesting. Maybe something will be done to fix it. Wouldn't that be nice?
I am looking forward to the weekend. There's a big soccer game at the football stadium on Saturday and some kind of party/dance in the exhibition hall just south of there on Saturday night. Then on Sunday, in the baseball stadium (just south of the exhibition hall) there is Wrestlemania. I have yet to work out how a wrestling side show got booked into a baseball stadium...
The notice in the elevator of my condo building announces the events so we'll know to plan access and egress. The notice says that there are 25,000 expected for the soccer game and 50,000 expected for Wrestlemania. If you need me, I'll be in my own living room. Thank you.

Date: 2003-03-27 03:29 pm (UTC)Knitting is making a comeback in the U.S. For some odd reason the Harry Potter scarf appears to have started it with the kids. They are learning to knit so they can make one. Anyway, it is fun to have more knitters on the planet, that is for sure!

Hello, Ian . . I'm Jo and I live in Seattle. I feel as though I know you - and those of Susan's friends who comment - since she was kind enough to add me to her list.
Susan's exquisitely beautiful work inspired me to find an alternative to knitting with needles yet knit just the same. Loom knitting can't come close to achieving the stitch variation Susan uses with such incredible skill . . . but it works for me and each project brings a true sense of accomplishment. Loom knitting is an old craft - going back to the 16th century - and I've found it to be very addictive. I get my looms from a woman in Washington State (gotta help our sagging economy as best I can!). You can see what I mean by knitting looms here:

I'll be posting pics of my first projects - as a neophyte loom knitter - soon. In the interim, I hope you'll give knitting some serious thought! I'd love to open your journal a few months from now and see pics of YOUR first knitting project!

Date: 2003-03-27 07:05 pm (UTC)One of my most prized possessions in the mid 70's was an enormously long Dr. Who (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/3746/Scarf.html) inspired scarf that a friend made for me. I always lose hats, gloves and scarves but I held on to that scarf for over a decade
My grandma tried to teach me how to knit but I never got the knack of keeping a pattern in my head.

Date: 2003-03-27 07:07 pm (UTC)I think the main reason that Wrestlemania got booked at Safeco Field was that the M's were supposed to be in Japan. *sigh* Let's hope they start playing better ball soon - they have looked pretty awful the last week or so.
