I have a friend here at work who shops mainly in brick and mortar stores. When she wants shoes, she goes to Nordstrom's or Target or wherever and looks and buys.

When I want shoes, I go to Nortdstrom.Com or Zappos.Com or whatever.com and look and buy.

She and I had lunch today and got to talking about the differences. Outside of the obvious - she gets to try on stuff and carry it out with her but has to go somewhere. I get to sit on my butt and pick from the world - I realized that I get far more out of the whole experience.

I think I get as much of a charge out of the confirming email, watching the order progress, getting the tracking number, tracking and waiting for the day... acquiring the actual shoes or whatever has become secondary... I love all of the collateral experiences as much as the main event!

Last week - for various reasons - I happened to have ordered 8 things off the internet from 8 different places. Now, this is extreme, even for me. And having so much to track does kind of diminish the experience. But, it's so much fun to see that the yarn order has gone to the warehouse and the gift basket went out via UPS today and the shoes will get here on Friday and the wireless modem will be delivered tomorrow!! Etc.

The experience of going to an actual store is so quick and so over so soon.

My manager told me today she's working on the funding press release. This is excellent news. The startup I'm working for - and love working for - has been looking for additional funding in this fun economy. Without further funding, we probably would be closing our doors by the end of August. But, it appears as if we are looking at nailing a deal down by the end of the month. Yahoo!
